Purpose

Skill the Creative Producers so they can take nature connectedness into communities, and so the digital artwork grows from real relationship with local places

About the project

Awe & Wander is Overhear’s digital strand within ReNEW. It connects urban neighbourhoods and green spaces in east Redditch through listening, walking, storytelling and co-created digital work on the OVERHEAR platform.

The work is led with a cohort of 12 Creative Producers — young people aged 16+ from Bromsgrove and Redditch — and two ReNEW apprentices. They are decision-makers, not an audience. They meet Overhear monthly, help shape the digital artwork, and go out to work with residents: isolated older people, families with older children, people from lower socio-economic groups, and other young people aged 15–20, especially in east Redditch (Arrow Valley, Church Hill, Gorcott Hill, Matchborough, Winyates).

The public outcome is a digital artwork on OVERHEAR that people can find in place — stories, sound and prompts rooted in local green space — building towards a celebratory event in September 2027.

Purpose of this training

This is not a standalone outdoor course, and it is not training for its own sake.

The Creative Producers will spend the next year asking other people to notice, feel and talk about nature in ordinary local places. They cannot do that well from a briefing note. The three days exist to give them a lived experience of nature connectedness — grounded in the University of Derby Five Pathways (Senses · Emotion · Meaning · Beauty · Compassion) — so that what they take into communities is real, not performed.

To what end

  • They become more confident in nature themselves — able to be present in a park, a pond, a woodland edge or a playing field, and to help others do the same without defaulting to species ID, litter-picks or “outdoor activity”.
  • They take that into communities — in the months after the residential they work with Overhear to meet groups, gather stories, sounds and images, and run small activities that make nature feel accessible and meaningful.
  • They make better work — the digital pins, walks and prompts they co-create should grow from relationship with specific local places, not from generic nature content dropped onto a map.
  • They keep using it — practices from the three days are reused in monthly Creative Producer sessions, and keep shaping the artwork through to the 2027 celebration.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

In short: a felt understanding of nature connectedness, and portable ways of working they can use with other people in east Redditch. What they then do with it: go into communities as young co-producers, and make a digital artwork that comes from that contact.

What we are commissioning

Design and deliver a coherent 3-day nature-based programme for 12 young people aged 16+ (Creative Producers) and two apprentices.

  • Include an overnight residential as part of those 3 days (the balance of day and overnight activity can be designed with the group and sites in mind).
  • Work with the Five Pathways framing — relationship with nature, not only species knowledge or outdoor skills.
  • Leave the group with shared practices they can reuse in monthly creative sessions with Overhear.
  • Root the training in specific local places — linking urban neighbourhoods and green spaces in east Redditch.
  • Work collaboratively with Overhear so learning informs the wider digital artwork.

Costs

Please propose the cost of delivering this package.

Set out your fee to design and deliver the 3 days, estimated delivery costs for the package (i.e. materials), and day rates or another clear breakdown if helpful.

We will assess value for money alongside the quality of approach.

Experience we are looking for — essential

  • Experience facilitating nature connection / nature-based learning (pathways, wellbeing-in-nature, or equivalent — not only guided walks or ID sessions).
  • Experience working with young people (16+) and/or community groups in outdoor or residential settings.
  • Ability to design and hold a multi-day programme, including overnight residential practice.
  • Sound safeguarding practice; willingness to evidence Enhanced DBS (or Update Service) and appropriate Public Liability Insurance.
  • Collaborative working style with other organisations and creative practitioners.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the Five Pathways to Nature Connectedness (University of Derby).
  • Experience in or near the West Midlands / Worcestershire, or clear willingness to work with local sites (Gorcott Hill, Arrow Valley, etc.).
  • Experience linking nature practice to creative and/or artistic outcomes.
  • Experience co-designing with young people as co-producers, not only delivering to them.

Individuals, freelancers, CICs, charities and small organisations are all welcome to apply.

How we will choose

We will look for

  • Strength of nature connectedness approach (not generic outdoor activity)
  • Clear sense of purpose — training that prepares young people to work with communities and make place-based digital work, not a course that ends on day three
  • Fit with 12 young people aged 16+ (Creative Producers) and a small residential cohort
  • A clear, realistic cost proposal
  • Ability to leave practices that Overhear can embed in ongoing Creative Producer sessions
  • Safeguarding and professional readiness to subcontract
