HMNB Clyde, Faslane, G84 8HL

Job Summary

At Navy Command, we lead, support, and sustain the Royal Navy across every theatre of operations. We coordinate the people, platforms, and missions that keep the Fleet ready for today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. Together, we uphold centuries of naval tradition while driving innovation that ensures the Royal Navy’s readiness to protect our nation and secure our future.

As the authority for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine capability, the Submarine Directorate oversees one of the most complex and critical elements of UK defence. Covering everything from in‑service management to long‑term fleet modernisation, the directorate ensures the Submarine Flotilla remains safe, reliable, and ready to meet national security requirements.

You'll be based at HMNB Clyde, home to the UK Submarine Service. It sustains the nation’s continuous at-sea deterrent and supports the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. As a centre of excellence for submarine operations, Clyde plays a critical role in national security and global stability.

This position is a Reserved Post within the Civil Service, for which only sole UK nationals are eligible. Under the Civil Service Nationality Rules, UK nationals include British citizens, British subjects with the right of abode in the United Kingdom, and British Overseas Territories citizens.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Support Change & Integration Delivery: Contribute to the coordination and delivery of capability integration and change activity across assigned areas.
  • Analyse & Manage Data: Collect, collate, and analyse data to support reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality of information.
  • Develop Reporting & Dashboards: Support the creation and maintenance of dashboards, trackers, and reporting outputs to inform decision-making.
  • Support Governance Processes: Assist with governance activities, including preparing reports, tracking actions, and maintaining records of decisions, risks, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate Stakeholder Activity: Engage with teams across HMNB Clyde to support communication, alignment, and understanding of integration activity.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Support the refinement of processes, reporting tools, and systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the team.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you will need to show you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience working with data, analysis, or reporting to support decision-making.
  • Experience of collecting, collating and managing information, ensuring accuracy, consistency and quality of outputs.
  • Ability to produce clear, structured reporting, analysis or visualisations (e.g. dashboards) to support decision-making.
  • Experience of supporting delivery or coordination of work within a structured or process-driven environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and communicate information clearly and effectively.
  • Experience using Power BI or other business intelligence and data visualisation tools to produce dashboards, reports, and management information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
