As the authority for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine capability, the Submarine Directorate oversees one of the most complex and critical elements of UK defence. Covering everything from in-service management to long-term fleet modernisation, the directorate ensures the Submarine Flotilla remains safe, reliable, and ready to meet national security requirements.
You'll be based at HMNB Clyde, home to the UK Submarine Service. It sustains the nation’s continuous at-sea deterrent and supports the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. As a centre of excellence for submarine operations, Clyde plays a critical role in national security and global stability.

Job Description
Are you ready to put logistics at the heart of one of the Royal Navy’s most important sites? As Support Capability Logistics Assistant Head at HMNB Clyde, you will bring people, plans and services together to shape smarter, stronger support across the site. Working with key stakeholders, you will lead the development of a logistics improvement plan, build a clear picture of existing services, identify and close gaps in provision, and help define future demand within the Clyde Integrated Operating Framework. You will also maintain the Master List of Assumptions, ensuring support arrangements are accurately reflected in HMNB Clyde’s baseline capacity and capability statement—making this an exciting opportunity to influence how vital logistics support is delivered now and in the future.
What You Will Do:
- Accountable for establishing, leading and managing high performing multi-disciplinary team and setting direction to ensure Logistics integration is understood across HMNB Clyde.
- Establish a clear and cohesive understanding of logistics services and future demand signals.
- Ensure that logistics support arrangements are integrated, efficient, and aligned with the Clyde Integrated Operating Framework.
- Create/maintain a MDAL and gain an overview of logistics interdependencies.
- Review, refine and manage the MNFFNS process ensuring a robust accounting process is in place and aligns to the relevant policies and procedures.
- Establish, manage and deliver a compliant audit programme for any materials being held on a Public Stores Account.
- Lead and manage GFA, PSSE, and all other logistics assets out with Naval Stores.
Person Specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Proven experience of leading and managing high-performing, multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of logistics and supply-chain operations within a complex organisation.
- Ability to understand and manage logistics interdependencies, risks, assumptions and dependencies.
- Experience of developing, reviewing and implementing robust processes that comply with relevant policies and procedures.
- Strong asset-management awareness, with the ability to support asset availability, reliability and accurate condition records.
- Excellent stakeholder-management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and organisational boundaries.
- Sound judgement, analytical skills and a proactive approach to identifying issues and delivering practical improvements.

You’ll have access to a variety of qualifications pathways ranging from GCSE/A-Level equivalent all the way up to master’s degree, depending on your role, your previous skills and your experience. Some qualifications even include “on-the-job” training which means minimal disruption to your working day but maximum impact.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of office attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
