As the authority for digital capability across the Royal Navy, Navy Digital leads the transformation that underpins modern maritime operations and support. Delivering Data, technology, and information services, the directorate drives innovation, efficiency, and effective information exploitation across the Fleet.

You'll be based at HMNB Portsmouth, one of the oldest and busiest naval bases in the world. It is home to the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers (HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales) alongside destroyers, frigates, and specialist squadrons. As a vibrant hub of maritime power and innovation, Portsmouth sustains the Fleet and supports thousands of personnel.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

Do you want to play a key role in ensuring the Royal Navy's digital products are delivered safely, operated effectively, and continuously improved throughout their lifecycle? As a Through Life Service Enablement Lead, you'll provide leadership across service transition, release, operational readiness and continual service improvement, helping ensure critical digital services remain reliable, secure and supportable. Working with delivery, support, security and customer teams, you'll help maximise the value and resilience of digital products that support Royal Navy operations worldwide.

You will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver outcomes and support wider organisational priorities. The expectation is to work in an agile way, flexing to support evolving priorities and projects. You may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as may reasonably be required.

We value flexible ways of working. This role requires regular onsite attendance (around 60% of the working week) to benefit from face-to-face collaboration, while offering flexibility of hours to support work life balance and business needs. During the initial period, you may be asked to attend more frequently to get familiar with the site, team, and responsibilities.

  • Lead the transition of digital products and services into live operation, ensuring they are fully supportable, compliant and ready for use.
  • Coordinate release planning, governance and deployment activities, managing dependencies, risks and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure service management processes, documentation and knowledge are maintained to support effective operation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work with delivery, support, security, supplier and customer teams to improve service performance, resilience and user satisfaction.
  • Identify and manage operational risks, supporting informed decision-making and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide reporting, assurance and insight to governance forums, ensuring services continue to meet business and operational needs.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience applying Service Management principles and practices to support the successful transition, operation and continual improvement of digital services.
  • Ability to identify, assess and manage risks, dependencies and issues, using evidence to support decision-making and maintain service quality.
  • Experience building effective relationships and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to deliver outcomes and improve services.
  • Ability to coordinate competing priorities, adapt to changing requirements and maintain delivery within a complex environment.
  • Experience using reporting, analysis and performance information to drive service improvements and provide assurance to senior stakeholders.
