**GKN Aerospace – Level 2 PFD Operator Vacancy – Non-Destructive Testing & Penetrant Processing Inspection

Job Summary

*At GKN Filton, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for both civil and military aircraft.

We are seeking a qualified Level 2 PFD Operator to carry out non-destructive testing (NDT) and penetrant processing inspection of components, identifying surface defects. Your role involves operating manual and automated penetrant testing lines, working as part of a team of up to 12 PFD Operators within our IMF facility. You will need to be flexible, as the role includes shift work:

Day shifts (07:00 am – 6:45 pm) + 25% Shift Allowance

  • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Week 2: Thursday, Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for recording value stream tasks within the site Risk Assessment Management tool, ensuring risks are accurately documented and controls are implemented
  • Ensuring ‘right-first-time’ production of parts
  • Confirming all calibrated equipment is within date
  • Responsibility for timely clearance of work phases via the SAP system
  • Highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Strict adherence to GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Compliance with Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA)
  • Holding first-party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining An stamp approval)
  • Performing duties in accordance with governing specifications
  • Ensuring compliance with all risk assessments, company Environment, Health & Safety procedures, and reporting incidents, accidents and near misses
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping in designated work areas
  • Championing Export Control compliance, adhering to the site’s Technology Control Plan (TCP), and ensuring adherence to Export Control Regulations, systems, and training

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Certificated Internal or External Auditor or completed training through a certified training partner
  • Personal attributes/behaviours aligned with ISO 19011 auditing principles
  • Demonstrable domain knowledge of aviation regulators (EASA, FAA etc.) and contracted customer quality requirements
  • Understanding of key manufacturing/support functions at Filton and Western Approach
  • Proficiency in risk-based methods/techniques (ISO 31000) for audit planning and management
  • Experience in Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) techniques
  • Experience in Internal Audits following ISO 19011 requirements
  • Knowledge of ASENJISQ9100 / ISO 9001 and IAQG SLA frameworks, with experience in Quality Management Systems/Process Approach
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with experience using MS applications/tools

Desirable:

  • Continuous improvement training or equivalent experience
  • Industry experience (APQP) in manufacturing, preferably aerospace/automotive
  • Thorough understanding of IAQG / EAQG ISO Standards and IAQG SCMH
  • Experience with IAQG OASIS database for audit planning
  • Knowledge of Business Process Management and APQC Process Classification Framework
  • Familiarity with AS13100 and associated reference materials
