Job Opportunity: Part-Time Library Assistant
Recruitment Process
Recruitment is being managed outside of our careers website via Eventbrite. Candidates must register and attend the session (link mentioned below) in order to apply for the role. Further instructions on how to apply will be provided at the event. Please note that there are a maximum of 50 places available at the event, so applicants are advised to register early. Working Hours:
5 x 12 hours per week (from Jan 2027 this will include Sunday working each week)
Contract Type:
5 x Permanent, Part-time
Additional Payment:
Enhancements are paid for weekend working - time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays
Work Location:
Central Library but maybe required to work at a branch library from time to time across the city according to service need.

Role Requirements
This role is subject to:
- 2 References - where possible we require 3 years' history.

About the Role
Our libraries are the beating hearts of our communities, and we are looking for part-time Library Assistants to come and join our friendly and supportive team at Central Library. These are permanent jobs and offer the benefits of working for a large local authority.
Responsibilities
You would:
- Be the first point of contact for customers:
Provide information and deal effectively with customer enquiries, including helping with IT enquiries - Carry out general library duties, basic health & safety tasks, handle and bank cash
- Support a wide range of events and activities for all ages at Central Library
- Be willing to be flexible and work at another library or location across the city if required.

Essential Requirements
- Weekend and evening work essential: For all posts, you will be required to work a Sunday each week (Sundays from January 2026).
- Experience and understanding of delivering excellent customer service
- Flexibility to work unsocial hours, including weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service
- Experienced in using ICT and confident in assisting digital delivery
