Location: Manchester M2 4JG

Overview
As a Back-End Developer, you will be a key contributor to your squad, responsible for the development, optimization, and maintenance of high-performance, scalable, and resilient server-side applications. In this high-concurrency, fast-paced environment, you will build upon your existing skills, take on more complex tasks, and begin to influence technical decisions. You will work closely with other developers, product managers, and testers to deliver robust solutions that power our core betting and gaming products.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Optimise: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented server-side code and actively participate in code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
- Contribute to Design: Work with senior developers and leads to contribute to the design and architecture of back-end systems.
- Collaborate: Integrate back-end services with front-end components and third-party systems through well-defined APIs.
- Troubleshoot and Debug: Identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues and bugs in a timely manner.
- Enhance Performance: Participate in the optimization of system performance and scalability to meet the demands of a high-transactional environment.
- Support Operations: Work with CI/CD pipelines, assist with system monitoring, and contribute to the operational health of the applications you build.

Experience and Skills
Essential:
- Proven Back-End Experience: Solid experience in back-end development with a strong command of a relevant server-side programming language (e.g., C#, Scala, Node.js, Java, Python).
- System Architecture: Good understanding of system architecture principles, including microservices and distributed systems.
- Database Management: Proficiency in database technologies, including both relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and non-relational (e.g., Redis, Cassandra) databases.
- API Development: Experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- Cloud Computing: Hands-on experience building and deploying applications on a major cloud platform, such as AWS or Azure.
- Version Control: Competence with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on writing robust and scalable solutions.

Desirable:
- Betting/Gaming Industry: Familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of the betting or gaming industry, including high-frequency trading and real-time systems.
- Asynchronous Communication: Experience with message queues like Apache Kafka for handling asynchronous data processing.
- Containerization: Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- DevOps Culture: Exposure to DevOps practices and a willingness to contribute to continuous integration and delivery.
- Observability: Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools to support operational excellence.
