About The Role
Avanti is seeking a highly skilled Senior C#/.NET Developer to take ownership of a large, business-critical WinForms platform that has recently been migrated from.NET Framework to.NET 8. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the modernization of an established desktop application, enhancing its maintainability, performance, and robustness using modern engineering practices. You will work closely with senior leadership, including the CTO and Head of Engineering, as well as the original software author, to understand the existing platform deeply and drive its evolution forward. Your technical expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future architecture, including the integration of APIs, cloud services, and web technologies, ensuring the platform remains scalable and adaptable to future business needs.

The initial onboarding phase involves 1-2 weeks onsite for immersive knowledge transfer, after which you will predominantly work remotely with occasional visits to the office every 1-2 months. The primary focus during the first 12-18 months will be on modernizing the WinForms platform, supporting new business functionalities, and embedding best practices such as automated testing and test-driven development (TDD). This role provides a genuine chance to influence technical direction within a collaborative environment, where your ideas and expertise will have a direct impact on the company's core systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in modern.NET and C# development, with proven experience working with WinForms applications. You should have extensive hands-on experience in developing, maintaining, and modernizing desktop applications, coupled with a solid understanding of automated testing and TDD methodologies. Experience contributing to software architecture decisions and taking ownership of existing applications is essential. Candidates with a history of migrating WinForms applications to modern.NET environments or designing service-based architectures will be highly regarded. Additionally, familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, REST API design, and frontend technologies like React or JavaScript will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a large, legacy WinForms application, guiding its modernization and ongoing development using modern .NET practices.
- Contribute to the design and architecture of the application, ensuring it aligns with current and future technical strategies.
- Implement automated testing frameworks and adopt TDD practices to improve code quality and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with the CTO, Head of Engineering, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Support the integration of the desktop platform with APIs, cloud services, and web technologies to facilitate future scalability.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and peer mentoring to foster a culture of engineering excellence.
- Assist in defining CI/CD pipelines for the deployment and testing of the application, ensuring smooth release cycles.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements to enhance platform performance and developer productivity.
