CMK Resources - NetBackup SME / Consultant
CMK Resources is seeking an experienced NetBackup SME / Consultant to support enterprise data protection projects across the United Kingdom. This consultant will work directly with Cohesity and its customers, including highly regulated and public-sector organizations.
The ideal candidate is a current, hands-on NetBackup specialist who can quickly become productive in a customer environment, independently lead technical delivery activities, and communicate effectively with both engineering teams and senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, upgrade, and support enterprise NetBackup environments.
- Deliver NetBackup-to-NetBackup migrations and platform-modernization projects.
- Support NetBackup upgrades, appliance deployments, and infrastructure refresh initiatives.
- Work with NetBackup Flex and Access Appliances.
- Assess existing backup environments and recommend improvements to resiliency, recoverability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and execute migration plans, implementation procedures, test plans, and recovery validation activities.
- Use or quickly become proficient with the Tranzman migration tool.
- Integrate NetBackup with cloud, virtualized, database, and enterprise application environments.
- Troubleshoot complex backup, restore, replication, connectivity, and performance issues.
- Develop scripts and automation to improve deployment and operational processes.
- Produce technical documentation, architecture diagrams, migration runbooks, and customer-facing reports.
- Lead technical discussions and present recommendations to engineers, architects, managers, and senior stakeholders.
- Work independently across multiple phases of professional services and customer delivery engagements.

Required Qualifications
- Active UK national security vetting clearance.
- Current hands-on expertise with Veritas NetBackup.
- Strong experience with NetBackup installation, configuration, administration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and recovery.
- Experience with NetBackup Flex Appliances.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise backup migrations or modernization projects.
- Deep understanding of data protection, backup, recovery, replication, retention, and highly available architectures.
- Experience supporting cloud-connected backup environments, preferably AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong knowledge of major operating systems, including Linux and Windows.
- Experience protecting enterprise databases and applications such as Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Customer-facing consulting or professional services experience.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly and work with limited supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, “can-do” approach.

Preferred Qualifications
- NetBackup Access Appliance experience.
- NetBackup appliance deployment or upgrade experience.
- Experience with NBU-to-NBU migrations using Tranzman is a major bonus but not required.
- Cohesity platform or Cohesity Professional Services experience is a bonus.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or other cloud platforms.
- Scripting or automation experience using Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Experience supporting UK government, financial services, law enforcement, or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience designing backup solutions for highly available applications and critical infrastructure.
Engagement Structure
This requirement may be supported through two parallel engagement models:
- Full-Time Contract: An initial six-month assignment with the potential to extend up to 12 months based on performance and business requirements.
- Project-Based Consulting: Fixed-scope engagements supporting specific NetBackup implementations, upgrades, migrations, or professional services projects.
