Overview
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Network & Infrastructure Engineer to support and evolve a complex hybrid IT environment spanning both on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud services. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of enterprise networking and infrastructure systems across multiple locations and cloud platforms.
The successful candidate will provide advanced third-line support across network, server, virtualisation, and cloud technologies, while contributing to strategic projects focused on improving resilience, security, and operational efficiency. Working closely with cloud engineering teams, the role will play a key part in the organisation's ongoing hybrid cloud transformation.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain enterprise networking environments, including LAN, WAN, wireless, data centre, and cloud networking.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and support network and infrastructure technologies to ensure reliable and secure connectivity.
- Maintain both on-premises and cloud-based network services.
Security & Cyber Defence
- Protect infrastructure against cyber threats, unauthorised access, and vulnerabilities.
- Configure and maintain firewalls, access controls, and network security policies.
- Monitor emerging security risks and implement mitigation measures where required.
Infrastructure Support & Availability
- Ensure high availability of critical infrastructure services through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
- Provide third-line technical support for complex infrastructure and network-related incidents.
- Conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
- Escalate significant service outages appropriately and contribute to incident response activities.
Cloud & Hybrid Connectivity
- Work closely with cloud engineering teams to support the integration of on-premises and cloud services.
- Assist in designing, implementing, and managing Azure networking solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity and performance issues across hybrid environments.
- Support cloud migration and transformation initiatives.

Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with technology teams to deliver infrastructure services aligned with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for process automation, optimisation, and service enhancement.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of infrastructure standards and best practices.
Project Delivery
- Lead or support infrastructure projects, including migrations, upgrades, platform refreshes, and new technology deployments.
- Produce implementation plans, technical documentation, and deployment strategies.
- Deliver projects efficiently while minimising business disruption.
Monitoring & Operational Standards
- Monitor infrastructure, network services, and cloud platforms to ensure performance and stability.
- Maintain standardised configurations and operational processes across environments.
- Support capacity planning and performance optimisation initiatives.
Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
- Validate backup and recovery processes and ensure recovery objectives can be achieved.
- Maintain and improve business continuity procedures.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and network diagrams.
- Record system changes, lessons learned, and operational best practices.
- Support knowledge transfer across the wider technology team.
Professional Development
- Keep current with developments in networking, cloud technologies, virtualisation, and cybersecurity.
- Pursue relevant training and industry certifications.
- Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.

Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to organisational policies, security standards, change management processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Support audit activities and remediate identified risks or control weaknesses.
- Promote best practice across all infrastructure and network operations.
Required Knowledge & Experience
Networking & Cloud Technologies
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts across both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure networking services, including Virtual Networks (VNets), VPN technologies, firewalls, routing, and hybrid connectivity.
Infrastructure Platforms
- Broad experience supporting enterprise infrastructure technologies, including:
- Windows Server
- Active Directory
- Microsoft Exchange
- VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Storage technologies
- Basic SQL Server administration
IT Service Management
- Familiarity with ITIL principles and operational processes, including incident, problem, and change management.
Security & Resilience
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security, threat mitigation, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience.
- Proven experience within infrastructure engineering, network engineering, or a similar enterprise IT role.
- Demonstrable experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure environments.
- Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CompTIA Network+ would be advantageous.
- Microsoft certifications, particularly Azure-focused qualifications (e.g., AZ-104, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent), are highly desirable.
- Additional cloud, security, or virtualisation certifications would be beneficial.
