About The Role
Venn Telecom UK is seeking a curious and motivated Junior Network and Automation Engineer to join our infrastructure team. This entry-level position is ideal for recent university graduates or individuals with practical knowledge of computer networking principles who are eager to apply their skills in a real-world environment. As a Junior Network and Automation Engineer, you will work closely with senior engineers to operate, monitor, and maintain our network infrastructure, gaining hands-on experience with routing protocols, network configuration, troubleshooting, and automation. The role offers a unique opportunity to learn about modern network operations, including the integration of AI-assisted development tools to create operational solutions. You will develop your technical expertise while contributing to projects that enhance network visibility, reliability, and efficiency, supporting Venn Telecom UK's mission to provide cutting-edge telecommunications services.

Qualifications
- Good understanding of core networking principles such as IP addressing, subnetting, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, and DHCP
- Basic knowledge of routing protocols like BGP and OSPF
- Interest in internet infrastructure, telecommunications, or service-provider networking
- Practical experience with Linux and command-line tools
- Basic scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript (preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong communication skills and ability to document technical information clearly
- Investigative mindset with a desire to understand system operations deeply
- Willingness to learn from feedback and take ownership of tasks as skills develop
- Evidence of self-driven learning outside formal coursework, such as personal projects, home labs, or open-source contributions
Responsibilities
- Assist in operating, monitoring, and maintaining Venn Telecom UK's network infrastructure
- Support configuration, troubleshooting, and management of routers, switches, firewalls, and network services
- Develop practical experience with routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
- Participate in network changes, maintenance activities, and infrastructure projects
- Investigate network alerts, connectivity issues, and performance problems using monitoring tools and logs
- Diagnose faults methodically, utilizing packet-level information and monitoring data
- Create and update network diagrams, technical documentation, and operational procedures
- Build small scripts and automation tools to streamline operational tasks
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools to research, develop, review, and document solutions
- Work with APIs and automation technologies to collect information and manage infrastructure securely
- Contribute to the development of internal dashboards and operational applications for better network visibility
- Test new ideas in controlled lab environments before production deployment
- Participate in technical reviews, incident analysis, and learning from real-world engineering challenges
- Engage in continuous learning through guided training, independent experimentation, and industry certifications
