Network Design Engineer
Location: Frimley
Salary: £50,000 to £70,000
Working Model: Hybrid working - 2 to 3 days per week onsite
Are you an experienced Network Engineer looking to take ownership of infrastructure design across complex, secure environments?
This is an opportunity to join a leading cyber and defence technology organisation delivering mission-critical infrastructure that supports some of the UK's most technically challenging programmes. You'll play a key role in designing, implementing and commissioning enterprise-scale network solutions while working alongside highly skilled engineering teams.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking infrastructure projects from design through to deployment, combining technical expertise with hands-on delivery.
The Role
As a Network Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and delivering secure network infrastructure that forms the backbone of critical technical solutions. You'll produce low-level designs, oversee infrastructure builds, support installation activities and ensure solutions are delivered to a high technical standard.

Working closely with project teams and stakeholders, you'll help deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure while contributing throughout the full project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design secure network infrastructure solutions for enterprise-scale environments
- Produce detailed low-level design documentation and supporting technical specifications
- Configure, build and commission networking infrastructure
- Manage and maintain infrastructure Bills of Materials throughout project delivery
- Support installation, testing and commissioning activities on customer sites
- Work with project teams and stakeholders to ensure infrastructure designs meet technical requirements
- Troubleshoot infrastructure issues during deployment and acceptance phases
- Ensure delivered solutions are technically integrated, secure and fully documented
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise or campus network infrastructure
- Excellent understanding of IP networking, routing, switching, DNS, VPNs and firewall technologies
- Experience with networking technologies from vendors such as Juniper, Dell, Palo Alto, Fortinet or Arista
- Knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and network authentication services
- Experience working with virtualised infrastructure using technologies such as VMware or Proxmox
- Ability to interpret existing infrastructure designs and develop technical solutions
- Comfortable working with physical networking hardware, rack installations and infrastructure troubleshooting
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams
