Senior Network Solution Design Engineer
Contract: 6 Months
Location: Leeds (Hybrid)
Rate: £550 per day
Overview
We're looking for an experienced Senior Network Solution Design Engineer to join a large enterprise technology team delivering modern hybrid-cloud networking solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, validating and implementing scalable network architectures across enterprise data centres, private cloud and public cloud platforms. You'll work closely with platform, cloud, security and application teams to translate complex technical requirements into secure, resilient and highly automated network solutions.
The successful candidate will combine strong enterprise networking expertise with cloud-native networking knowledge and a practical engineering mindset. Alongside solution design, you'll be expected to build prototypes, validate designs in lab environments and support implementation using automation and Infrastructure as Code.
Key Responsibilities
- Design enterprise network solutions supporting data centres, private cloud and public cloud platforms.
- Build, prototype and validate network designs through hands-on engineering, proof of concepts, lab testing and automation.
- Develop and maintain reference architectures, standards and best practices for hybrid-cloud networking.
- Embed Infrastructure as Code and automation principles into network solutions.
- Design resilient, scalable data centre networks using proven Layer 2/Layer 3 networking principles, including EVPN/VXLAN fabrics, routing, segmentation and high availability.
- Collaborate with cloud, platform, security and application teams to deliver robust network architectures.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation and present solutions within architecture and design governance forums.
- Assess emerging networking, cloud and automation technologies to support future platform evolution.

Required Skills & Experience
Enterprise Networking
- Extensive experience designing enterprise data centre networks.
- Strong knowledge of routing, switching, segmentation, resiliency and high availability.
- Expert understanding of BGP, including traffic engineering, data centre implementations and cloud connectivity.
- Experience designing EVPN/VXLAN-based data centre fabrics.
Cloud & Hybrid Networking
- Proven experience designing hybrid-cloud and private cloud networking solutions.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes networking, including CNI architectures such as Cilium, Calico or OVN-K.
- Experience with cloud-native networking concepts including ingress, egress, service networking and load balancing.
- Experience designing cloud connectivity using:
- AWS Direct Connect
- Azure ExpressRoute
- Google Cloud Interconnect
- Equinix Fabric
- Megaport
- Strong understanding of resilient private-to-public cloud connectivity patterns.

Automation
- Experience designing networks with automation and programmability in mind.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, Bash or equivalent Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling.
- Experience working with Git-based workflows.
Platforms & Technologies
- Linux administration.
- Cisco ACI, Arista, Cisco and Juniper networking platforms.
- Cloud networking across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.
- Network observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, ThousandEyes, Kentik or similar.
Nice to Have
- SD-WAN and SASE architecture experience.
- Zero Trust networking and identity-based access models.
- CDN and global traffic optimisation experience.
- DNS architecture across public, private and hybrid environments.
- Experience working with Platform Engineering or Internal Developer Platform (IDP) teams.
