Senior Network Developer
About Share
Share is the global marketplace for bandwidth. We aggregate telco infrastructure across Africa (fiber routes, subsea capacity, data centers, cloud on-ramps) into a single intelligence layer. That lets ISPs, hyperscalers, and AI companies get connectivity where they need it in seconds, not months.
Today, bandwidth is bought and sold through slow, private, one-off deals, with almost no price transparency. We're replacing that with one neutral exchange: an API on top of real infrastructure, with prices set by actual supply and demand. It's already live across East Africa, with thousands of kilometers of fiber, 12 infrastructure providers, 10 data centers, and around 8 million people served.
The Role
Our network is the foundation of the product. Every route a customer provisions through our API has to exist, perform, and stay up on real hardware. We're hiring a Senior Network Developer to design and build that network as software: a distributed, multi-provider fabric that engineers change through code, not by logging into devices.
You'll own the network architecture end to end. That covers our BGP edge (transit, peering at KIXP and LINX, private interconnects with hyperscalers), the backbone, and the PoPs and data centers we're adding across the continent. You'll set the standards our network is built to, which partner ISPs connecting to us will inherit. As we grow, you'll also help build the network engineering team.
What You'll Do
- Design the backbone and PoP architecture as standard, repeatable building blocks, from edge to data center, so we can add capacity and new markets without redesigning each time.
- Drive our move to Segment Routing and a clean IP architecture, including IPv4 reuse, IPv6, and how customer and internal address space coexist.
- Build on disaggregated white-box hardware (Edgecore with IP Infusion OcNOS today), and make the hardware and software calls that keep us fast and affordable.
- Turn operations into software. That means a source of truth (Nautobot), templated config (Jinja), and CI/CD with validation, staged rollouts, and rollback for every change.
- Build the telemetry and observability that show what the network is really doing. Use AI where it actually helps: anomaly detection, automated triage, and auto-remediation with a human in the loop.
- Own availability. Limit how much any failure can affect, mitigate first and diagnose second, and turn post-mortems into fixes in the system.
- Work with our software team on the API and provisioning layer that exposes the network to customers, and with partner ISPs' engineers on the hand-off.
- Help hire and develop the engineers who'll run this with you.

Our Ideal Candidate
- 8+ years building and operating large networks at a hyperscaler, CDN, internet exchange, carrier, or ISP.
- Deep BGP at scale: route policy, communities, RPKI, traffic engineering, peering, and transit.
- Strong data center and backbone design. You know Clos/EVPN-VXLAN fabrics and MPLS or Segment Routing, and when each makes sense.
- Hands-on with white-box or disaggregated networking, including choosing hardware and knowing where the silicon limits you.
- You treat the network as code. You write automation yourself (Python or similar), and you've built or run the pipelines, source of truth, and telemetry that make that safe.
- You've owned availability for something that couldn't go down, and can walk us through a real incident: what broke, how you found it, and what you changed.
- AI-native in how you work. You've built with these tools, not just used them, and you have a view on where they help in operations and where they don't.
- You think like an owner. You bring ideas, not tickets, and you want to help build a team, not just a network.
- A clear, direct communicator who's comfortable with partners' engineers and with our founders.

Nice to have
- Experience at an internet exchange, or running peering at scale.
- Open networking stacks like SONiC, OcNOS, or FRR, or contributions to them.
- Streaming telemetry (gNMI/gRPC, sFlow), and building your own monitoring tooling.
- 400G/800G and optical (ZR) deployments, including vendor selection and certification.
- Access networks (GPON/XGS-PON) and MikroTik or Huawei gear, since many partner ISPs run it.
- Building networks in emerging markets such as Africa or Latin America.
- DDoS mitigation at the edge.
