About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join the established Network Operations team on a 12-month contract basis. The successful candidate will be based in Stevenage, with occasional support required across Bolton and Bristol. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a highly secure, complex enterprise environment, supporting critical network infrastructure across multiple UK sites. The Network Engineer will be instrumental in maintaining, supporting, and enhancing network services, ensuring operational stability, security, and performance. You will collaborate with internal technical teams, security specialists, and external vendors to implement network improvements and security initiatives, contributing significantly to the organisation’s mission of safeguarding national security through robust network solutions.

Qualifications
- Strong background in Network Engineering and IT Infrastructure
- Experience working within secure or highly regulated network environments
- Knowledge of crypto technologies and secure network environments
- Proficiency with Cisco technologies, including Catalyst switches and ISE
- Understanding of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP
- Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux/RHEL, and VMware
- Exposure to Software Defined Access (SDA), authentication services, and network security
- Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
- Valid DV Security Clearance is required
Responsibilities
- Providing operational support for enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites
- Investigating, owning, and resolving network-related issues and risks promptly
- Supporting network improvement projects and wider business initiatives to enhance network capabilities
- Collaborating with security teams on network reporting, risk analysis, and compliance activities
- Supporting secure network environments, including crypto solutions and associated technologies
- Maintaining comprehensive network documentation and operational procedures
- Liaising with third-party vendors and technology partners to optimise service delivery and resolve issues
- Assisting in the deployment and configuration of network hardware and software updates
- Monitoring network performance and implementing proactive measures to prevent outages
- Contributing to network security assessments and ensuring adherence to security policies
