Senior Network & OT Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Sheffield – 3 days per week onsite

Contract: Inside IR35

Duration: Initial contract, likely extension

Start: ASAP

We are looking for an experienced Senior Network & OT Infrastructure Engineer to design, automate, and support secure network environments across enterprise IT and operational technology (OT) estates. The role requires strong Cisco networking expertise alongside hands-on experience with SD-WAN, SD-Access, network automation, and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and support Cisco Catalyst switching environments using IOS-XE.
  • Manage VLANs, STP/RSTP, port security, QoS, and Layer 2–7 troubleshooting.
  • Configure and operate Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN, including policy templates, VPN segmentation, and WAN edge devices.
  • Support Cisco SD-Access fabric design, commissioning, and ongoing operations.
  • Use Cisco Catalyst Centre for device management, assurance, automation, and monitoring.
  • Design secure IT/OT network segmentation based on the Purdue Model and IT/OT DMZ principles.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform, Ansible, Python, or Bash.
  • Integrate network changes into CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
  • Configure Cisco ISE for AAA, profiling, segmentation, and TrustSec.
  • Support network automation through Cisco NSO, RESTCONF, and NETCONF interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot complex performance, connectivity, and security issues across enterprise and industrial networks.
  • Maintain technical documentation, network standards, and operational procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Strong Cisco Catalyst switching and IOS-XE experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of VLANs, STP/RSTP, port security, QoS, and TCP/IP.
  • Hands-on Cisco SD-WAN/Catalyst SD-WAN experience.
  • Practical Cisco SD-Access and Catalyst Centre experience.
  • Understanding of OT network architecture, the Purdue Model, and IT/OT DMZ design.
  • Terraform experience for infrastructure provisioning.
  • Python and/or Bash scripting for network automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Layers 2–7.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE, including AAA, profiling, and TrustSec.
  • Experience using Ansible or Terraform for network configuration management.

Desirable Skills

  • Cisco NSO, RESTCONF, or NETCONF experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, IEC 61850, or OPC-UA.
  • Experience with SCADA/ICS platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, Siemens TIA Portal, or Rockwell FactoryTalk.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82, or NIS2 cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Familiarity with enterprise and industrial network monitoring tools.
  • Previous experience within manufacturing, utilities, energy, or other operational technology environments.
