About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Network Engineer to join our world-leading Time & Frequency department. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the National Timing Centre (NTC) programme, which aims to establish a resilient and secure time distribution infrastructure for the UK. The Lead Network Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the delivery, management, and continuous improvement of the NTC network infrastructure. This pivotal position requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to ensure the deployment of mission-critical network capabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to shape the future of secure and reliable digital infrastructure that underpins essential services such as telecommunications, online banking, emergency response, and transport networks. This role is instrumental in safeguarding national security and maintaining operational resilience against emerging threats to satellite-based navigation systems.

Qualifications
- Degree qualification in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and managing complex network infrastructure projects at scale
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience delivering mission-critical projects within highly regulated environments, such as UK Government or similar sectors (desirable)
- Strong understanding of project governance, assurance frameworks, and compliance requirements
- Ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing technical teams
- Awareness of emerging technologies and their application within complex network environments
- Strategic and forward-thinking mindset, with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop sustainable solutions
- Security clearance: Must be able to obtain or hold an SC clearance with no restrictions (mandatory)
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and management of the NTC network infrastructure, ensuring successful deployment and operational readiness of mission-critical capabilities
- Provide strategic and technical leadership to the Network Engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
- Design, implement, and evolve the network infrastructure to meet current and future operational demands
- Continuously evaluate and improve network capabilities, integrating emerging technologies and best practices
- Partner with senior stakeholders and the Technical Authority to develop and steer network strategy and solutions
- Ensure compliance with governance, security, health and safety, and environmental standards, managing associated risks and assurance processes
- Mentor and develop colleagues, promoting technical excellence and professional growth within the team
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting network infrastructure
- Collaborate across departments and external agencies to ensure seamless integration and operational resilience
