Network Engineer / Crypto Custodian – UK Defence
Location: Corsham, Wiltshire – Hybrid
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 depending on experience plus an excellent benefits package and a yearly TAX FREE BONUS
Security Clearance: SC or DV Clearance required – level dependent on assignment
Our client, operating within the UK Defence sector, is looking for a Network Engineer with previous Crypto Custodian experience to join its team based predominantly in Corsham.
This opportunity would particularly suit a Service Leaver or Veteran from a Royal Signals background, potentially at Corporal or Sergeant level, who has gained practical networking and CIS experience alongside responsibility for cryptographic material and secure communications.
The role combines hands-on network support and engineering responsibilities with Crypto Custodian duties, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to transfer their military communications, networking and crypto experience into a civilian Defence environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day network engineering and technical support within a secure Defence environment.
- Support the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of network infrastructure and associated systems.
- Assist with network configuration, connectivity and fault resolution.
- Undertake Crypto Custodian responsibilities and maintain appropriate control and accountability of cryptographic material.
- Manage the receipt, issue, storage and accounting of cryptographic material and associated equipment.
- Maintain accurate crypto registers, records and audit trails.
- Conduct regular checks and inventories to ensure controlled material and equipment is fully accounted for.
- Ensure cryptographic material is handled, stored and distributed in accordance with relevant security procedures.
- Support the secure management of cryptographic keys and secure communications equipment.
- Assist with security audits, inspections and assurance activities.
- Work closely with network, infrastructure, security and wider technical teams.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with Defence security policies and procedures.

Experience Required:
- Previous experience within a Network Engineer, Network Support, CIS, Communications or similar technical role.
- Previous experience undertaking Crypto Custodian or Deputy Crypto Custodian responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience managing or handling cryptographic material, keys or associated secure communications equipment.
- An understanding of network infrastructure and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with secure communications or CIS systems.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and accountability for controlled or classified assets.
- A good understanding of security procedures within a Defence or similarly secure environment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work within clearly defined security processes.

Military Background:
This position could be particularly well suited to an ex-Royal Signals Corporal or Sergeant who has worked within networking, CIS or communications and has undertaken Crypto Custodian duties during their military career.
Candidates from Royal Navy CIS, RAF communications or other UK Armed Forces communications and networking backgrounds with the relevant crypto experience are also encouraged to apply.
Crypto Custodian may not have been your primary military role. If you have worked as a Network Engineer, CIS specialist or communications professional and held Crypto Custodian responsibilities as part of your wider duties, we would be particularly interested in speaking with you.
The Opportunity:
This is an excellent opportunity for a Service Leaver or Veteran to transfer specialist military networking, CIS and cryptographic experience into a civilian career within the UK Defence sector.

The package includes:
- Salary of up to £45,000, depending on experience.
