About The Role

IMT Resourcing Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced 3rd Line Network Engineer to join our client’s dynamic team in London. This senior-level position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a leading connectivity and technology organization that provides critical network services to a diverse customer base. As a 3rd Line Network Engineer, you will be responsible for managing complex network issues, providing expert technical support, and driving improvements across the organization’s network infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of customer-facing networks, taking ownership of escalated incidents and implementing permanent solutions to recurring problems. This role requires a proactive approach, technical expertise, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, and third-party suppliers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in network engineering, with relevant professional experience and industry certifications. Essential qualifications include extensive experience in 3rd Line Network Support or a senior Network Engineering role, preferably within an ISP, telecoms, or service provider environment. A solid understanding of routing protocols such as TCP/IP and BGP, along with hands-on experience configuring carrier-grade or enterprise network equipment, is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting complex network faults methodically and making live configuration changes under change control. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders. Desirable qualifications include experience with wireless networks, scripting or API knowledge, understanding of Layer 1 fibre networks, and relevant professional certifications in networking, security, or wireless technologies. Responsibilities

  • Own and resolve complex and escalated network faults, ensuring minimal disruption to customer services.
  • Troubleshoot issues across routing, switching, wireless, and customer network infrastructure using methodical diagnostic approaches.
  • Make and document configuration changes on live customer-facing network equipment, adhering to change management processes.
  • Coordinate with customers, field engineers, suppliers, and internal teams to diagnose and resolve network incidents effectively.
  • Support wireless network troubleshooting remotely, assisting on-site engineers with surveys, access point placement, cabling, and power checks.
  • Develop deep technical knowledge of the organization’s wireless networking platforms and infrastructure.
  • Escalate core network issues to Network Operations with clear diagnosis and understanding of customer impact.
  • Monitor network events and correlate them with incoming incidents to proactively identify potential issues.
  • Lead problem management initiatives for recurring faults, identifying root causes and implementing permanent corrective measures.
  • Produce detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports and documentation explaining the reasons for outages or incidents.
  • Create and maintain technical playbooks and documentation to enhance resolution processes across support teams.
  • Improve network monitoring and alerting systems by tuning thresholds, reducing false alarms, and identifying coverage gaps.
  • Manage escalations involving third-party suppliers and connectivity providers, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Provide technical input and review network configurations before deployment to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Participate in an on-call rota, serving as the senior technical escalation point behind 2nd Line support.
