With a rich history of service, innovation, and dedication, the Metropolitan Police continuously strives to adapt to the evolving security landscape by integrating cutting-edge technology and infrastructure. The organization fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment, emphasizing professional development and operational excellence to support its mission of protecting the public and upholding the rule of law.

About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our dynamic Infrastructure Team within the Metropolitan Police. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting and enhancing the agency’s complex network systems that underpin critical surveillance and operational policing activities across London. As part of a specialist group of engineers, you will design, develop, deploy, and maintain a variety of network solutions that ensure seamless communication, data security, and operational efficiency. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile projects that directly impact public safety, requiring technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to network management.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in network engineering, with hands-on experience in installing, configuring, and supporting network equipment. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of network performance monitoring and troubleshooting complex connectivity issues. A full UK driving license is essential, and the willingness to obtain C1/D1 licenses is preferred. Candidates must either hold or be willing to obtain SC(e) security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the systems involved. Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are highly desirable. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and flexibility to support operational demands outside standard hours are also required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
