Role: Network Engineer

Location: Milton Keynes – Hybrid (3 days office, 2 days home)

Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 + circa £5,000 on-call allowance + Pension, Bonus

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to join a highly skilled Network Operations Centre (NOC) team within a leading technology solutions provider, supporting a diverse range of customers across sectors including finance, manufacturing, utilities and retail.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to an all-round infrastructure and networking specialist who enjoys solving complex problems, working directly with customers and taking ownership of technical issues within a managed services environment.

The Role

Working across a varied range of customer environments, you will support, maintain and develop network, infrastructure, security and virtualisation technologies, helping to ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality managed services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical expertise across network and infrastructure solutions, from design through to implementation.
  • Supporting complex technical environments, including networking, cloud, servers, virtualisation and security technologies.
  • Managing incidents, troubleshooting problems and developing effective technical solutions.
  • Working closely with internal teams and customers to understand requirements and support solution design.
  • Supporting service reporting, reviews and ensuring agreed SLAs and KPIs are achieved.
  • Acting as a technical point of reference within the team, sharing knowledge and providing guidance where required.
  • Travelling occasionally to customer sites and data centres across the UK to deploy, maintain and support technical solutions.
  • Participating in a 24/7 on-call rota, currently approximately 1 in 4, including evenings and weekends.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience within networking and infrastructure, ideally gained within a managed services or similarly complex environment.

You will ideally have experience with:

  • Cisco networking, including CCNP-level knowledge and Nexus switching.
  • Firewalls and network security, including Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, Check Point or Palo Alto.
  • Cloud technologies, particularly AWS and Azure.
  • Windows and Linux servers.
  • VMware ESXi and vSAN.
  • Load balancing, network monitoring and server rack management.
  • Security monitoring tools, including Microsoft Defender and Sentinel.
  • ITIL-based service delivery, incident management and change management.
  • Producing high-level and low-level technical designs (HLD/LLD).

Strong problem-solving skills, good communication and the ability to work independently are essential. You will also be comfortable dealing directly with customers, managing competing priorities and taking ownership of technical issues through to resolution.

The Package

  • £60,000 – £65,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
  • Additional on-call allowance of approximately £5,000 per annum (1 in 4 weeks)
  • Bonus
  • Benefits package.
  • Hybrid working – 3 days per week in the Milton Keynes office and 2 days from home.
  • Occasional UK travel to customer sites and data centres.

Location:

Candidates should be within a reasonable commuting distance of Milton Keynes (no more than 45 minutes)
