Network Engineer

Belfast (hybrid 2-3 days onsite)

£55k-£65k

Are you an experienced Network Engineer looking for a role that combines core networking with cloud infrastructure?

Would you like the opportunity to work across on-premise environments, Microsoft Azure, network security and emerging infrastructure technologies?

We’re currently supporting an established organisation looking for an IT Network Engineer to join their infrastructure team. This is a varied role where you’ll be involved in the day-to-day management of the network environment, as well as contributing to wider infrastructure improvements and projects.

The Role

As an IT Network Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and improving network infrastructure across both on-premise and cloud environments.

You’ll work closely with wider infrastructure and technology teams, helping to deliver reliable, secure and scalable solutions while supporting the ongoing development of the organisation’s technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain network infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Support and develop Microsoft Azure networking and cloud infrastructure.
  • Configure, manage and troubleshoot network technologies including BGP, OSPF and SD-WAN.
  • Work with network load balancing technologies such as F5 or equivalent.
  • Investigate and resolve complex network, connectivity and infrastructure issues.
  • Support network security initiatives, including the implementation of Zero Trust principles.
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security, proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Support vulnerability management, patching and remediation across the infrastructure environment.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, network configurations and service records.
  • Work with internal technical teams and third-party suppliers on infrastructure projects and improvements.
  • Ensure appropriate backup, configuration management and business continuity processes are in place.
  • Contribute to automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives.
  • Support the continued improvement of infrastructure processes, tools and services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
