Network Engineer
Location: UK (Hybrid/On-site as required)
Clearance: Must hold or be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
Rate: Up to £675 per day via an approved umbrella company
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join a high-profile programme delivering critical infrastructure capabilities within a secure and complex technical environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, implementation, and support of enterprise network infrastructure, providing the connectivity foundation for mission-critical systems and services. Working across both physical and virtual network environments, you will be responsible for delivering robust, secure, and scalable networking solutions throughout the full project lifecycle, from design and build through to integration, testing, and operational support.
This is an excellent opportunity for a network professional with strong Cisco expertise and a passion for delivering resilient enterprise-scale solutions within highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
As a Network Engineer, you will:
- Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure across physical and virtual environments.
- Configure and manage network devices including:
- Routers
- Switches
- Firewalls
- Deliver modern network architectures including:
- Leaf-Spine networks
- Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
- Virtualised networking platforms
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot dynamic routing protocols including:
- OSPF
- BGP
- Implement and support core network services including:
- IP Addressing
- Subnetting
- VLANs
- QoS
- Traffic Management
- Deploy and manage overlay networking technologies such as VXLAN.
- Implement secure networking solutions, including firewall policies, IDS/IPS technologies, and secure communications.
- Support network integration, testing, validation, and commissioning activities.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
- Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
- Network Build Guides
- Configuration Standards
- Operational Runbooks
- Work closely with Service Management teams to troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve incidents and service issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend improvements to increase service stability.
- Contribute to automation, standardisation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the network estate.
- Ensure all solutions align with programme standards, governance requirements, and security policies.

Essential Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong experience in enterprise network engineering, including design, implementation, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including:
- TCP/IP
- Subnetting
- Routing
- Address Management
- Hands-on experience configuring and supporting routing protocols, particularly:
- OSPF
- BGP
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking equipment including:
- Routers
- Switches
- Firewalls
- Experience with enterprise networking technologies such as:
- Cisco Nexus
- Cisco IOS-XE
- Leaf-Spine Architectures
- VXLAN
- Strong understanding of network security technologies including:
- Firewalls
- IDS/IPS
- AAA Platforms
- Secure Network Segmentation
- Experience implementing and managing QoS policies and traffic optimisation techniques.
- Ability to produce and maintain technical documentation including LLDs, build guides, and operational procedures.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem solving.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant industry certification such as:
- CCNP Enterprise
- Equivalent networking certification
- Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, SC Clearance.

Desirable Skills & Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience working within Defence, Government, National Security, or other highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of defence-grade networks and secure gateway architectures.
- Experience supporting large-scale, virtualised, or software-defined infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
- Experience using Atlassian toolsets including:
- JIRA
- Confluence
- Experience designing and managing secure multi-tenanted network architectures.
- Exposure to automation and infrastructure-as-code approaches within networking environments.
- Additional industry certifications such as:
- CCIE
- VMware VCP-NV
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Knowledge of cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure environments.
