About The Role
Purpose
To ensure the robust operation and evolution of 7IM’s network and IT infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud (Microsoft Azure) environments. The Network & Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for maintaining secure and reliable connectivity for the entire enterprise, covering data centres, office locations, and cloud services. The role provides expert third-line support for core infrastructure services, including network, server, and virtualisation platforms such as Windows Server, Hyper V, and VMware, supporting colleagues, clients, and partners. It also drives projects that improve resilience, security, and performance as 7IM continues its transformation towards a hybrid cloud model. This position works closely with the Cloud Engineering team to align on network, server, and connectivity requirements as services migrate to Azure.
Responsibilities
- Network Infrastructure Management: Manage 7IM’s internal and external networks, including office/data centre LANs, WAN, Wi-Fi, and Azure cloud. Install, configure, and upgrade network hardware and cloud components to enhance communication infrastructure and maintain reliability.
- Network Security & Threat Protection: Safeguard networks from malware, viruses, and unauthorised access across on-premises and cloud environments. Install and maintain firewalls, set company-wide access policies, and stay updated on cybersecurity risks to address vulnerabilities and threats.
- Infrastructure Availability & Support: Keep IT infrastructure consistently available through efficient management of requests, prompt incident resolution with root cause analysis, and ongoing improvements. Provide third-line support for complex issues and escalate major outages to the Head of IT Infrastructure when needed.
- Cloud Integration & Collaboration: Collaborate daily with Cloud Engineering to support 7IM’s Azure transformation. Align network architecture and help design and manage Azure networking components to ensure secure, seamless integration between on-premises and cloud networks, resolving connectivity-related issues as a team.
- Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work with the Infrastructure team to carry out IT strategy aligned with business needs. Identify ways to optimise, automate, or improve processes to boost efficiency and support 7IM’s goals.
- Project Implementation & Upgrades: Lead or play a key role in infrastructure projects – typically involving network or system migrations, upgrades, and deployment of new or improved services (including cloud adoption initiatives). Draft project proposals and implementation plans for such, then execute these plans to deliver enhancements on time and with minimal disruption to business operations.
- Systems Monitoring & Standardisation: Monitor servers, networks, and infrastructure for issues and uptime across on-premises and Azure. Maintain consistent configurations in all environments to boost stability and support.
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Support IT disaster recovery for network infrastructure. Run regular tests to ensure backup systems work and meet RTOs. Keep continuity plans current.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Update and expand team documentation, including network setups and procedures. Record changes and best practices for both on-premise and Azure environments.
- Professional Development: Pursue ongoing training in networking, cloud, and cybersecurity. Seek courses, certifications, and labs to keep skills sharp and benefit the team.
- Compliance & Best Practices: Follow 7IM’s policies, industry regulations, and best practices in all infrastructure tasks. Adhere to IT security and change management procedures, complete required training, and ensure networks and systems meet regulated financial standards. Provide information and implement fixes for IT audits or risk assessments as needed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
