About The Role

From the day-to-day IT operations that keeps a national railway running, to the extensive delivery programmes that our helping to reshape the railway - we are at the forefront of all of it. What does the average day look like?
- By use of the OMC server interfaces, to bring under management both the Alcatel FTN the Nortel GSM-R radio network, integrating them into the design configurations as required. The work also involves testing of alarm functionality, and production of test certification documentation, resulting in a fully managed network being handed over into Network Rail in an operational state.
- To provide 24/7 network management control of the Network Rail radio network.
- Coordinate with Network Rail Project Commissioning Engineers to support the successful introduction and integration of new system components.
- Monitor and manage system performance through the Cramer platform and associated interfaces.
- Identify system issues, mobilise appropriate resources, and lead fault-finding activities through to system-level resolution.
- Support the System Design Authority in the acceptance, regression, and validation testing of software releases, patches, and related hardware upgrades.
- Assist with the implementation and commissioning of new equipment and technologies across the network.
- Ensure asset databases are accurate, up to date, and maintained in line with established standards.
- Coordinate the controlled release of system components for operational use and planned maintenance activities.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for queries relating to Cramer circuit anomalies and system performance issues.
- Manage and oversee processes required to support effective disaster recovery planning and response.
- Initiate and coordinate system recovery actions during service disruption or disaster recovery events.
- Monitor system capacity and utilisation, providing recommendations to optimise performance and resilience.
- Implement and oversee incident management processes to ensure timely resolution and minimal operational impact.

- Experience in engineering software testing.
- Practical experience of field engineering fault finding, resolution and planned maintenance activities.
- Telecomms qualification.
- Knowledge of SDH and voice networks.
