Your mission
A key focus of the role will be the effective management of the team and prioritisation of individual planning tasks to ensure customer requests progress within agreed delivery timescales.
The role will ensure planning outputs are delivered to the required quality, cost, and timescale requirements.
The team is responsible for reviewing proposed and existing FTTP build designs and validating that these remain technically, commercially, and operationally viable with a strong focus on HSEQ compliance. This includes coordinating updated field surveys through contract partners, reviewing survey outputs, assessing build costs and feasibility, considering HSEQ and utility constraints, and establishing land ownership and wayleave requirements.
Identify requirements for wayleaves, permissions, or specialist land access support and refer these to the appropriate Wayleave Officer where ownership or access cannot be resolved through the normal planning process.
Review and authorise design changes where appropriate, ensuring impacts are assessed, documented, and communicated.
Manage individual customer-driven planning tasks against agreed SLAs, ensuring each activity has clear ownership, status, next action, and required completion date.
Monitor planning milestones, ageing tasks, risks, dependencies, and constraints, escalating issues where appropriate.
Work closely with Build, Commercial, HSEQ, Wayleaves, PIA, contractors, and other internal and external stakeholders to support efficient customer delivery.
Ensure planning and design changes are accurately captured within GIS and relevant network record systems.

Provide regular reporting on planning performance, workload, resource requirements, survey performance, customer delivery, and risks.
Manage planning resource allocation, workload prioritisation, and task sequencing to ensure effective and timely delivery.
Assess proposed solutions against agreed commercial parameters and available customer/build budgets, identifying opportunities for alternative or more cost-effective solutions where appropriate.
Your profile
The ideal person will come from a telecoms background coupled with extensive planning experience. Previous experience working for a major UK telecoms company would be an advantage.
Significant FTTP planning experience with a good understanding of passive network infrastructure.
Demonstrable experience leading, supervising, or supporting technical planning teams.
Strong understanding of fibre surveying, network design principles, and fibre infrastructure deployment.
Experience reviewing existing network designs and validating these against current field conditions.
Good understanding of fibre and civils within FTTP builds, including duct, chambers, poles, trench routes, and Special Engineering Difficulties.
Proven ability to assess and develop fit-for-purpose and cost-effective network solutions.
Good commercial awareness with the ability to assess proposed solutions against agreed cost and budget parameters.
Experience managing or working with third-party survey, design, or delivery partners.
Understanding of HSEQ requirements associated with telecommunications and civil engineering works.
