Role Overview

As Network Manager, you'll lead the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the organisation's network infrastructure, ensuring it remains secure, resilient and fit for purpose. You'll translate technology strategy into practical network solutions that support current operations and future growth, working within a large public sector institution to ensure staff and service users have access to a reliable, secure network environment. You'll manage and develop a network services team, overseeing technical strategy, service delivery, security and stakeholder relationships across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop a network services team, providing direction, mentorship and support to enable staff to perform effectively and progress in their roles
• Conduct performance appraisals, identify training and development needs, and allocate work fairly and transparently
• Design, implement and oversee the organisation's network infrastructure and services, ensuring they meet current needs while remaining scalable and future-proof
• Lead technical planning, budget allocation and procurement for network solutions, evaluating vendor options and negotiating contracts for value for money
• Evaluate emerging network technologies and innovations, assessing their applicability and recommending adoption to enhance security, performance and capability
• Establish and monitor network service levels and performance metrics, communicating service status, availability and planned maintenance to stakeholders and end users
• Lead network service delivery operations across multiple sites, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and automation
• Manage incident response and problem resolution for network services, ensuring timely escalation and communication to minimise disruption
• Contribute to security and risk management processes, identifying network vulnerabilities, recommending controls, and ensuring compliance with data protection and security policies
• Stay informed of network security trends, threats and best practice, translating this into improvements to the organisation's security posture
• Work alongside the wider IT architecture team to ensure network design and strategy align with broader IT strategy and business objectives
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with senior leaders, department heads and key stakeholders to inform network service planning
• Provide advice and support to colleagues on network-related matters, helping inform decisions on connectivity, capacity and technology options
• Work flexibly across sites during and outside of core hours on a rotating schedule, with on-call availability for emergencies and critical incidents, including occasional weekends
