Network Security Operations Engineer

💰 £480/day (Inside IR35)
📍 Manchester, UK (2 days onsite)
📅 6-Month Contract

Our client is looking for a Network Security Operations Engineer to support enterprise network security operations within a highly regulated environment. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of network security controls, with a strong focus on firewall operations, security incidents, policy management, compliance, governance and change control. The role will work closely with security, network, application, compliance and service management teams to maintain secure, compliant and resilient network environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support across enterprise network security environments.
  • Manage security incidents involving firewalls, network access and security controls.
  • Review and process firewall requests against security policies and business requirements.
  • Manage firewall policy exceptions, including risk assessment and approvals.
  • Support firewall compliance, governance and audit activities.
  • Ensure firewall changes follow appropriate change control processes.
  • Work within ITIL processes covering Incident, Problem, Change and Service Management.
  • Identify outdated or non-compliant firewall rules and support remediation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting and audit evidence.
  • Coordinate with security, network, application, compliance and service management teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in enterprise network security operations.
  • Hands-on experience with firewall request management and policy administration.
  • Experience handling network security incidents and operational response.
  • Understanding of firewall compliance, governance and policy exceptions.
  • Experience working within ITIL-aligned Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
  • Strong understanding of network security controls, access management and operational risk.
  • Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management, documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess security risks and drive remediation.

Desirable Experience

  • AlgoSec or equivalent firewall policy management platforms.
  • Palo Alto, Check Point or other enterprise firewall technologies.
  • Zero Trust, ZTNA, SASE or SSE.
  • Network segmentation and software-defined networking.
  • Cloud and hybrid network security.
  • Experience within banking, financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, NIST or CIS Controls.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, PCNSE, CCSA/CCSE, CCSP or GIAC.
