Network Security Operations Engineer

Location: Manchester, UK
Working: Hybrid 2-3 days onsite per week
Contract: 6 Months

Role Overview

We are looking for a Network Security Operations Engineer to support enterprise network security operations within a highly regulated environment. You will manage firewall operations, security incidents, policy exceptions, compliance, and governance while ensuring alignment with ITIL processes and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for enterprise network security and firewall environments.
  • Manage firewall requests, policy changes, exceptions, and security incidents.
  • Ensure firewall activities comply with security policies, risk assessments, and approval processes.
  • Support firewall governance, compliance, audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage security changes through established Change Management processes.
  • Work across ITIL Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Management processes.
  • Identify outdated or non-compliant firewall rules and support risk remediation.
  • Maintain accurate operational, security, and audit documentation.
  • Collaborate with Network, Security, Infrastructure, Application, Compliance, and Service Management teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in enterprise network security operations and firewall management.
  • Experience with firewall requests, policy administration, exceptions, and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Management.
  • Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments.
  • Good understanding of security controls, risk assessment, governance, and audit requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with AlgoSec or equivalent firewall policy management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust, ZTNA, SASE, SSE, network segmentation, and SDN.
  • Financial services/banking or other highly regulated industry experience.
  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration, hybrid networking, and network security transformation.
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CCNP/CCIE Security, PCNSE, CCSP, AZ-500 or AWS Security Specialty.
