Network Security Researcher

Department: Cyber Services and Capabilities

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: GBR Cheltenham Jessop House

Description

NCC Group are continuing to expand the newly formed National Security Business Unit. We are seeking Network Security Researchers to meet future demands in this challenging and exciting field of Cyber security with some of the most challenging and rewarding projects you can imagine with an interesting range of clients. You would join a truly exceptional team with a wide range of backgrounds and specialisms and a huge depth of experience. The role would:

  • Research new and innovative solutions to challenging client problems.
  • Conduct assessments of and research into existing client solutions to prove or disprove their security fundamentals.
  • Contribute to team growth in capacity and capability through knowledge sharing and mentoring of colleagues.
  • Be suited to someone who enjoys the challenge of working in new areas, being part of the growth a small but capable team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual and team contribution to projects.
  • Leadership and mentoring of less experienced team members.
  • Creation of technical reporting on findings.
  • Contribution to client tooling and shared knowledge.
  • Leading and growing a technology capability area.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Clearance: This role requires the candidate to hold and maintain a high level National Security clearance.
  • Experience: Experience of undertaking research type activities either as a function of a role or as an individual.
  • Relevant technical experience with the research areas.
  • Team leadership / development
  • Business systems: Must be competent with standard business systems such as Microsoft tooling etc.
  • Technical skills: Network protocol and OSI model knowledge.

Desirable

  • Mobile network protocols/architecture knowledge
  • Engineering principles
  • C and/or C++ Programming Experience
  • Scripting Experience (Python/Perl etc)
  • Low TRL research
  • Source code review
  • Reverse Engineering (x86/ARM/PowerPC/MIPS)
  • Use of debugging tools (GDB/x64dbg/r2/windbg/frida)
  • Use of disassemblers for reverse engineering (IDA/Ghidra)
  • Project Management
  • An understanding of planning and executing research topics as well as technical ability in the subject area.
