Network Support Engineer — Cambridge £35,000, mostly remote
£35,000 | Remote with 1 day/week in Cambridge | East Anglia
Our client has secured a significant contract to manage communications infrastructure across a large and rapidly expanding research campus near Cambridge. They're looking for a Network Support Engineer to support the site — currently one day a week on campus, with the likelihood of a full-time on-site role developing over the next 12–18 months as the contract grows.
This is a great opportunity for a solid CCNA or JNCIA-level engineer based in East Anglia who wants a stable role with genuine long-term potential, without having to commute to London. Mostly remote now, with a clear path to becoming the permanent on-site engineer for a major, well-funded campus with 5–10 years of expansion ahead of it.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide network support across a large research and residential campus environment
- Routing and switching support — configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- BGP and OSPF in a live production network
- First and second line network support — resolving incidents and carrying out network changes
- Maintain accurate documentation and support ongoing network improvements
- On-site in Cambridge approximately one day per week — flexible remote working for the remainder
- Optional on-call once settled into the role — not mandatory

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
