Neuro Specialist Orthoptist – Neurosciences and Trauma Group

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated neuro specialist orthoptist to join our expanding Neurosciences and Trauma service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with complex neurological disorders. As a key member of the neurosciences team you will work closely with a wide range of professionals across a range of in-patient and out-patient settings to deliver integrated patient-centred care.

This role will see you working at the heart of our stroke, neuro-rehab and major trauma pathways, assessing and managing patients with a range of visual impairments. As a research active department there will be opportunities to participate and lead in research and help us innovate future care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • To provide specialist visual impairment screening, assessment and treatment to patients in an in-patient and out-patient setting.
  • To plan, implement and monitor individual orthoptic treatment plans/care pathways for patients using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
  • To take direct referrals, prioritise and judge requirements for onward referral. May be first point of contact for patients and is totally responsible for patient management.
  • To support the planning and delivery of orthoptic services.
  • To provide specialist training and education to orthoptic undergraduate students, multi-disciplinary neurosciences and trauma teams, health care assistants and nurses.
  • Contribute to and participate in programmes of audit, including utilisation of results in practice.
  • To contribute to an active research portfolio and support recruitment to research studies.
