Job Overview
The Patient Pathway Coordinator is responsible for the effective coordination and administration of patient pathways within the Neurosurgery service, from referral through to treatment and follow-up care.
The post holder will manage outpatient and inpatient waiting lists in line with national access standards, including Referral to Treatment (RTT) targets, and the Trust’s Patient Access Policy. This includes ensuring patients are scheduled appropriately to support timely access to care and optimal use of clinical capacity.
The role involves coordinating patient pathways for a team of clinicians, including booking outpatient appointments, arranging admissions, supporting pre-operative assessment processes, and scheduling theatre activity. The post holder will ensure all elements of the pathway are managed proactively to avoid delays and support positive patient outcomes.
The Patient Pathway Coordinator will act as a key point of contact within the service, liaising closely with clinical teams, administrative colleagues, other departments, general practitioners, patients, and relatives. The role requires a professional and patient-focused approach to communication at all times.
The post holder will be expected to use initiative and sound judgement to prioritise workload, resolve routine pathway issues, and escalate complex concerns appropriately to senior staff, including the Support Manager or Performance and Operations Manager.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery Service as an Patient Pathway Co-ordinator.
This role requires the identification of capacity pressures within the service and contribute to the effective management of waiting lists, escalating risks to delivery of access targets as required.
The role also includes responsibility for ensuring high standards of data quality. This includes the accurate and timely input of patient information onto the Patient Administration System (e.g. Careflow PAS), maintaining RTT pathways, and ensuring activity is recorded correctly to support performance monitoring and income processes.
