New Business Development Manager – Sales Hunter
London & South East
Are you a genuine sales hunter? We’re not looking for someone to inherit a comfortable portfolio of existing customers. We’re looking for someone who loves finding, opening and winning new business. Someone who sees a hotel, office, venue, university, restaurant group or major London business and immediately wonders: who supplies them, who makes that decision, and how do I get in front of them?
If your strength is maintaining an established customer base, this probably isn't the role for you. If you get your energy from the chase, opening doors, building relationships from nothing and turning prospects into customers, keep reading.
The role
Thamesmead Business Services is an established London and South East supplier of cleaning, hygiene, janitorial and associated products.
We already work with some fantastic businesses and brands across London, but this role is about the customers we don't have yet.
- You'll be given significant autonomy to build your own pipeline, identify the markets and businesses you want to target and decide how you're going to get in front of them.
- This isn't a role where you'll be handed a list of warm leads and asked to work through it.
- We want someone capable of creating their own opportunities.
You'll have the backing of an established business, an extensive product range, competitive commercial support, strong supplier relationships and our own London delivery operation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
We'll give you the platform. Your job is to go and win.
What we're looking for
New-business hunting must be something you've actually done, not simply something that appeared in your previous job description.
We want someone who can demonstrate that they have personally:
- Identified and targeted new prospective customers
- Found and engaged the right decision-makers
- Created opportunities without relying solely on inbound leads
- Built a meaningful sales pipeline
- Negotiated and closed new business
- Developed new accounts from their first order into valuable customers
Experience within our industry would be useful, but we're equally interested in successful B2B hunters from other sectors.
We're much more interested in how you sell than whether you already know our catalogue.
Autonomy
This is important.
We're not looking to recruit a salesperson and then tell them who to call every morning.
- You'll have targets and accountability, but you'll also have considerable freedom over how you achieve them.
We want someone curious enough to spot opportunities, commercially aware enough to know which are worth pursuing and driven enough to go after them.
The expectation is significant: we're looking for someone capable of building towards approximately £1 million of new annualised business. The earning opportunity reflects that.
Package
Competitive basic salary, depending on experience and track record.
On top of your basic salary you'll receive:
- Generous new-business commission
- Company car
- Business expenses
- The opportunity to increase earnings substantially by exceeding target

Our commission structure is deliberately designed around winning new business. There is no artificial earnings ceiling – the more profitable new business you create, the more you can earn. We'll explain the commission structure clearly during the recruitment process so you can understand exactly what different levels of performance mean for your earnings.
Who this probably isn't for
If you're looking primarily for an account-management role, this isn't it. If you need all of your leads supplied to you, this isn't it. If prospecting is the part of sales you tolerate so you can get to the account-management bit, this probably isn't it either. But if you genuinely enjoy the hunt, we'd like to hear from you.
The recruitment process
We don't want to make recruitment unnecessarily complicated.
The initial conversation will be about you, what you've sold, how you've created new opportunities and, most importantly, what you've actually won.
For candidates progressing further, we'll explore your approach to building a new-business pipeline and give you the opportunity to understand Thamesmead, our market, our customers and the earning potential of the role.
You won't be expected to arrive knowing everything about cleaning and hygiene products. You will be expected to know how to sell.
Think you're a hunter? Tell us what you've won.
