Want to become an HGV Driver but don’t have your HGV licence yet?
New for 2027, Tru7 is launching a brand-new HGV Driver Apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to earn while you learn, gain your HGV licence and build real-world experience across our transport operations.
This is more than just getting your licence.
You’ll spend time working alongside experienced Tru7 drivers, learning how our transport operation works and developing the skills needed to become a professional HGV driver.
What will you learn?
The apprenticeship is an 8-month programme, with your HGV licence gained within the first three months.
You’ll gain experience across different areas of our transport operation, including:
- Tippers
- Bulkers
- Mixers
- Plant & Low Loaders
- Vehicle checks and driver safety
- Load safety and handling
- Route planning and customer service
- Driver hours and record keeping
- Safe and fuel-efficient driving
- Transport technology
- Accident reporting and emergency procedures
You’ll also be paired with an experienced Tru7 driver buddy/mentor, giving you the opportunity to learn from drivers who know the job inside out.

Your HGV journey
The programme is designed to give you a broad introduction to professional driving before developing your experience behind the wheel.
Your first few months will include driver-mate experience, professional driver training, theory and practical testing. Your Category C HGV licence is expected to be achieved within the first three months, followed by supervised driving experience with experienced Tru7 drivers.
The wider professional driver programme also includes development towards Category C+E, alongside professional driver development and logistics training.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, you must have:
- HGV provisional licence
- Full UK driving licence
- Minimum 12 months' driving experience
- No driving offences

- Physically fit and prepared for a hands-on role
GCSE or equivalent English and Maths at Grade 3 or above is desirable.
Earn while you learn
You’ll be employed by Tru7 for the duration of the apprenticeship and receive an apprentice wage while completing your training.
