Scope
To co-ordinate personal care and nursing care to our Residents in line with the core values and values framework of the Home ensuring these are utilised at all times and to ensure that such care is delivered in line with the Resident's individual care plan which reflects current needs.
To ensure care that is delivered is safe, caring, effective and responsive to the Resident's needs, and play a part in creating and promoting an environment where excellence can flourish.
To ensure scope of practice is in line with the Home's policies and procedures and the NMC Code of Conduct.
To work within the operating framework of the Home with regards to the job level ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Under the supervision of the Management team, to actively work towards developing own relevant nursing skills in order to achieve the Fairlie Healthcare Group's Staff Nurse competencies.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure the personal care and other health needs of Residents are met and that assigned duties are executed in a professional and caring manner giving due regard to the Home's core values and values framework and the Skills for Care Code of Conduct for Health and Social Care Workers and the NMC Code of Conduct.
- To ensure all relevant clinical documentation is in place, reflects the current clinical and care needs of the Resident as is updated monthly, (or more often if the Residents condition changes) to ensure accurate records are maintained, in line with the Home's policies and procedures and NMC guidance on record keeping.
- To administer prescribed medication to Residents in line with the instructions of the prescribing doctor and the Home's medication policies and procedures, and NMC guidance on the Standards of Medication Administration.
- To monitor the health needs of Residents to ensure appropriate escalation using the NEWs protocol to General Practitioner services or a local acute hospital as appropriate.
- To work co-operatively with colleagues in the pursuit of the responsibilities of the post, with due regard to our diversity and inclusion framework and policies. To carry out the reasonable instructions of the senior nurse in charge or management staff to ensure optimal use of resources within the Home to ensure high quality care can be delivered at all times.
- To attend rostered shifts as defined in the off-duty and to follow all HR policies and procedures in the event of being unable to attend for a rostered shift; understanding that such absence risks service levels and has the potential to compromise standards of care.
- To ensure concepts learnt during mandatory training sessions, (health and safety, inflectional control, core values, and fire safety - this is not an exhaustive list) are upheld and demonstrated in practice during your working shift.
- To act at all times to uphold the CQC domains ensuring care delivered is safe, caring, effective and responsive.
- To use the clinical governance framework and adverse event reporting procedures as per the Home's policy and procedures to identify and report any adverse events, particularly in respect of patient safety or other reportable events.

- To ensure all mandatory training is kept up to date as defined by the Home, to attend supervision sessions and to undertake an annual appraisal, including completion and renewal of clinical competencies relevant to the purpose of the role, (for example tracheostomy and ventilator competencies) as directed by the Home.
- To ensure working with management staff, that you have sufficient evidence for the purposes of NMC Revalidation and that you complete the necessary revalidation documentation in line with the timeframes set out by the NMC to ensure you maintain an active PIN number at all times.
- Ensure knowledge and skills are kept up to date by attending additional training as identified during supervision, appraisal and development sessions, and to ensure these are reflected in practice during your working shift.
- To ensure the values and ethos of Fairlie Healthcare Ltd are upheld in all dealings to ensure high standards of care and the good reputation of the Home are maintained.
- Ensure your actions or omissions do not contravene any relevant legislation in respect of the operation and registration of the Home, including, but not limited to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and the Care Act 2014, the NMC Code of Conduct and any other relevant legislation that may be in force.
- Although working on your allocated floor, there may be times that it is necessary to redeploy you to another floor to ensure clinical risk can be managed throughout the Home.
- To report without delay, in line with the Home's Safeguarding policies and procedures, any actual or suspected abuse of Residents or any children visiting the Home.
- To respect Resident's confidentiality at all times in line with the Home's Information Governance Procedures.
