What You'll Be Doing

As a Newly Qualified Solicitor within our specialist Private Children Team, you'll focus on private children law matters, supporting clients through a range of cases involving:

  • Child Arrangements Orders
  • Prohibited Steps Orders
  • Specific Issue Orders
  • Special Guardianship Orders
  • Relocation Applications
  • Non-Molestation Orders
  • Occupation Orders

Working alongside experienced specialist lawyers, you'll gain exposure to all aspects of case preparation and progression, including:

  • Court applications and hearing preparation
  • Witness statements, position statements and case summaries
  • Preparing hearing bundles and supporting court proceedings
  • Client meetings and ongoing client care
  • Safeguarding considerations and working alongside CAFCASS where appropriate
  • Developing your advocacy skills and confidence within the court process

What We're Looking For

Technical ability is important, but attitude, empathy and potential matter just as much. We're keen to recruit someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, eager to learn and excited by the opportunity to develop their own caseload, advocacy skills and expertise within a growing specialist Children Team.

Essential

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Are a Newly Qualified Solicitor
  • Have gained experience in private children law matters during your training contract or equivalent experience
  • Have a good understanding of the Children Act 1989 and Family Law Act 1996
  • Understand the important role of safeguarding and CAFCASS within private law proceedings
  • Have experience assisting with court applications, witness statements, position statements, case summaries and hearing bundles
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Build rapport easily and communicate with warmth, empathy and professionalism
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital systems.

Desirable

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Exposure to domestic abuse matters and emergency injunction applications
  • Attended court hearings and conferences with counsel
  • Experience managing their own files, or meaningful exposure to file management and progressing matters under supervision
