The Times and The Sunday Times represent a combined 400 years of covering news and providing comment and analysis on the UK and the world. We are authoritative, credible, responsible, trusted and a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.
The Times and The Sunday Times is looking for a Newsletter Editor to help manage the portfolio of 30+ newsletters and play a key role in daily operations.
This role will support the head and deputy head of newsletters in the execution of growth and retention strategies across this increasingly important area for audience engagement and development.
Responsibilities
Day to day you will:
- Manage the daily production calendar for daily and weekly newsletters, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met and troubleshooting workflows
- Write and optimise subject lines, preview text and headlines to maximize open rates and engagement
- Assist newsroom desks with story curation and gathering assets, and schedule newsletters when needed
- Use audience data and insights to help identify areas for optimisation and A/B testing, including content mix, send timing and approaches to personalisation and segmentation
- Maintain and update automated newsletter workflows
- Train editors and sub-editors on newsletter best practice, style guides, templates and publishing tools, and be on hand to support them
- Collaborate with product, data and tech teams to resolve bugs or issues
- Support the operational roll-out of newsletter launches, redesigns and pop-up series
Requirements
What we’re looking for from you:
- Hands-on experience editing, assembling and deploying newsletters within a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Proven ability to write clear, compelling newsletter copy and curate engaging editorial content under tight deadlines, with outstanding attention to detail
- An instinct for compelling headlines, subject lines and clean layout design
- Proficiency with major service providers such as Sailthru and Substack
- Ability to turn audience analytics into actionable insights
- Exceptional attention to detail and a rigorous approach to pre-send quality control
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate diplomatically with editors and other partners
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset
