About the Role
As Head of Compliance for National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), you’ll lead and continuously develop the NGET Compliance Programme, helping to embed a strong culture of ethics, integrity and accountability across our business.
Working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across NGET and National Grid Group, you’ll ensure we maintain a robust, risk-based compliance framework that supports our regulatory, legislative, corporate compliance and health and safety obligations.
You’ll provide strategic leadership across the full compliance lifecycle, from risk assessment and horizon scanning through to controls, assurance, training, issue management and remediation. You’ll ensure National Grid Group compliance frameworks, policies and standards are effectively embedded within NGET, adapting and strengthening them where necessary to address Electricity Transmission-specific requirements.
This is a highly visible leadership role where you’ll provide meaningful insight and assurance to NGET leadership and governance forums, using data, monitoring, testing and audit findings to identify emerging risks and trends and continuously strengthen our compliance environment.
Ultimately, you’ll help ensure that ethics and compliance are embedded into how we operate, how we make decisions and how we deliver for our customers and communities.
What you'll do
- Lead and continuously develop the NGET Compliance Programme, embedding a strong culture of ethics, integrity and accountability across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain a risk-based compliance framework, ensuring appropriate policies, processes and controls are in place to manage regulatory, legislative and corporate compliance obligations.
- Identify and assess current and emerging compliance risks, using monitoring, assurance, audit findings and data insights to strengthen the control environment and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee compliance training, communications and engagement, ensuring colleagues understand their responsibilities and Group requirements are effectively embedded across NGET.
- Ensure compliance issues, control gaps and concerns are appropriately identified, assessed, escalated and remediated in partnership with business stakeholders.
- Provide clear and transparent compliance reporting and assurance to senior leadership, governance committees, the NGET Board and National Grid Group.

Qualifications
We’re looking for an experienced compliance and ethics leader who can operate confidently in a complex, highly regulated environment.
You’ll bring:
- 10+ years' experience working within professional compliance and ethics teams, ideally gained within a highly regulated environment. Experience with energy and utilities sector would be advantageous.
- 3+ years' experience leading professional compliance and ethics teams, whether directly or virtually, and delivering compliance programmes within a complex, matrix organisation.
- Significant experience in a controls-related discipline, such as audit, assurance or risk management.
- Strong knowledge of compliance programme design, risk assessment, controls, assurance and remediation.
- The ability to interpret complex compliance requirements and translate them into practical and proportionate business solutions.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal, influencing and presentation skills.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior and executive leadership.
- The ability to motivate, guide and coach others.
- Demonstrable ability to prioritise effectively and maintain sound judgement when working under pressure.
Experience interacting with relevant UK regulators such as Ofgem, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) would be particularly valuable.
A professional compliance qualification, such as ICA, SCCE or equivalent, would be desirable but is not essential.

You will get:
A competitive salary from £82k to £99k – commensurate with experience. As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 40% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
