Night Shift Manager

Food Manufacturing

South Yorkshire

Up to £51,000

Sunday to Tuesday & every other Saturday (17:30 – 06:00)

Some people enjoy the quiet of a night shift.

This isn't that.

This is the shift where every decision matters. Where production plans change, customer priorities move, vehicles still need loading on time, and you've got one chance to keep everything on track before the day team walks through the door.

If you're the type of Shift Manager who stays calm when everyone else starts panicking, keep reading.

We're recruiting a Night Shift Manager for a major food manufacturer in South Yorkshire. This is a business that's growing fast, winning new contracts and continually investing back into its people, equipment, and facilities. They've got an excellent reputation for developing their managers, and this vacancy exists because the current incumbent has progressed internally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be walking into...

You'll be the most senior operational leader on site during the night shift.

  • Up to 10 production lines.
  • A team of up to 50 people across the shift.
  • One Team Manager reporting directly into you.

Your job isn't simply making sure production runs. It's making sure production still delivers when plans inevitably change.

  • Orders move.
  • Priorities change.
  • Lines need switching.
  • Changeovers need managing efficiently.
  • Loading deadlines don't move.

You'll constantly be balancing labor, production priorities, and customer requirements while making sure quality, safety, and performance never slip.

It's a role for someone who enjoys solving problems rather than creating them.

You'll probably be a good fit if you:

  • Have experience as a Senior Production Shift Manager or Shift Manager within food manufacturing.
  • Have previously managed busy, high-volume production environments.
  • Stay calm when production plans change at short notice.
  • Can make quick decisions without losing sight of quality or safety.
  • Know how to get the best from Team Managers and production teams.
  • Ideally have experience leading night shifts (although strong days-based candidates with the right background will also be considered).

Why make the move?

This isn't a business standing still.

  • They're continuing to win new customers.
  • They're investing heavily across the operation.
  • People who perform here get recognized, developed, and promoted.

If you're looking for somewhere you can genuinely build a long-term career rather than simply cover another night shift, this is worth a conversation.
