Position:

The Night Hygiene Supervisor is responsible for leading the night hygiene team to ensure that all production equipment, processing areas, and associated facilities are cleaned and sanitised to the highest food safety and hygiene standards. The role ensures compliance with food safety legislation, customer standards, and company procedures while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. This role is fixed term for 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, motivate and support the night hygiene team.
  • Allocate daily cleaning tasks and monitor completion.
  • Conduct shift briefings and handovers.
  • Train new employees in hygiene procedures and safe working practices.
  • Monitor attendance, performance and conduct.
  • Promote a positive culture of food safety, quality and teamwork.

Hygiene Operations

  • Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed on time.
  • Verify that all production areas are cleaned to the required standard before production begins.
  • Inspect equipment following cleaning and authorise release where appropriate.
  • Ensure correct use of cleaning chemicals, equipment and PPE.
  • Maintain hygiene equipment in good working condition and report defects.
  • Coordinate deep cleaning activities and periodic hygiene projects.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, allergen controls and company hygiene standards.
  • Follow and enforce cleaning Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Complete hygiene verification and validation records accurately.
  • Assist during internal, customer and third-party audits.
  • Support investigations into hygiene failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and retained appropriately.

  • Promote safe systems of work at all times.
  • Ensure COSHH procedures are followed when handling chemicals.
  • Conduct risk assessments where required.
  • Report accidents, incidents and near misses promptly.
  • Ensure all team members wear the correct PPE.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve cleaning effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Reduce water, chemical and energy consumption where possible.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the factory.
  • Recommend improvements to cleaning methods, equipment and procedures.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Previous supervisory experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and sanitation principles.
  • Understanding of HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Experience managing cleaning chemicals safely (COSHH).
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Competent IT skills for completing records and reports.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable

  • Level 3 Food Safety qualification.
  • HACCP qualification.
  • COSHH training.
  • IOSH Working Safely or Managing Safely.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety requirements.
