Night Shift Maintenance Supervisor
Whatley Quarry, Somerset
Up to £62,000 + Excellent Benefits
As Night Shift Maintenance Supervisor, you will be trusted to lead, inspire and develop your team while taking full accountability for all maintenance activities during your shift. You'll be at the forefront of driving safety, reliability and performance, ensuring your team delivers planned and reactive maintenance to the highest standard. Working closely with production, contractors and the wider management team, you'll have the autonomy to make key operational decisions, prioritise workloads and implement improvements that have a direct impact on site performance. Your leadership will play a vital role in achieving world-class equipment reliability, improving plant availability and driving the site's journey towards best-in-class operational excellence. This is far more than a maintenance role. It's an opportunity to build high-performing teams, influence site strategy and leave a lasting impact on one of the UK's most significant quarrying operations.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced maintenance leader to take ownership of the night shift operation, leading a skilled engineering team in a fast-paced and highly automated manufacturing environment.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a confident and engaging maintenance leader who thrives on managing people as much as machinery. You'll be someone who can motivate teams, make decisions under pressure and create an environment where safety, reliability and continuous improvement are the standard.

- Maintenance Supervisor
- Engineering Team Leader
- Engineering Shift Manager
- Senior Maintenance Engineer with leadership responsibility
- Maintenance Team Leader ready for a larger and more autonomous role
The Opportunity
As Night Shift Maintenance Supervisor, you will take full ownership of all mechanical and electrical maintenance activity during your shift. You'll lead the maintenance response, coordinate contractors, support production teams and ensure equipment reliability remains at the highest possible standards. This is a leadership role where you'll be trusted to make decisions, solve problems and continuously drive improvements that contribute directly to site performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all maintenance activities during the night shift
- Ensure safe systems of work, permits and risk assessments are followed at all times
- Manage and coordinate engineering and maintenance contractors on site
- Support and develop the on-site TPM team
- Drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma and 5S methodologies
- Maximise plant availability and improve Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)
- Improve Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) across plant assets
- Reduce Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) through effective maintenance planning and execution
- Ensure compliance with all company standards, statutory legislation and environmental requirements
- Work closely with production teams to achieve operational targets and best-in-class performance

What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from experienced maintenance professionals who can demonstrate strong technical capability alongside excellent leadership skills.
- Proven mechanical engineering experience
- Time-served apprenticeship, NVQ in Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience within a maintenance engineering environment
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements
- Good IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Ability to lead teams, manage contractors and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment
- Electrical engineering experience
- Green Belt Six Sigma qualification
- HNC/HND in Engineering or Maintenance Engineering
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NVQ Level 4 in SHE Quarry Operations
