About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Operations Supervisor (Night Shift) to join our growing UK logistics operation in Braintree.
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the operation during your shift, leading frontline employees and making sure inbound, outbound, sorting and cargo handling activities run safely, accurately and on time.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the operation, leading teams on the warehouse floor and solving problems in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
Shift Operations
- Take responsibility for the overall operational performance of your assigned shift.
- Oversee inbound, outbound, sorting and cargo handling activities.
- Make sure daily operations are completed in line with cut-off times, service level requirements and operational targets.
- Monitor workload throughout the shift and adjust priorities when required.
Team Leadership
- Supervise frontline operational employees and allocate work according to workload and business priorities.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity and workforce utilisation.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching and on-the-job training to team members.
- Support employee performance and maintain good communication across the shift.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure Health & Safety, Aviation Security (AvSec) requirements and company procedures are followed at all times.
- Make sure employees use the correct PPE and follow safe working practices.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Support incident investigations and follow-up actions where required.

Operational Problem Solving
- Respond quickly to operational issues such as delays, staffing shortages, system problems and cargo exceptions.
- Take appropriate corrective action to minimise disruption to the operation.
- Escalate serious or high-risk issues to management when necessary.
Quality & Process Control
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions are consistently followed.
- Monitor scanning accuracy, cargo handling standards and overall operational quality.
- Help prevent mis-sorts, missed scans, handling errors and other operational defects.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and working practices.
Reporting & Shift Handover
- Complete shift reports, operational records and incident reports accurately and on time.
- Provide a clear and detailed handover to the incoming shift.
- Keep management informed of operational risks, delays, performance issues and improvement opportunities.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in warehouse, logistics, parcel, e-commerce, freight or cargo operations.
- Previous experience as a Team Leader, Shift Leader, Supervisor or similar frontline management role is strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of warehouse and operational processes.
- Experience managing frontline employees in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and confidence working with different operational teams.
- Strong awareness of workplace Health & Safety.
- Experience with operational KPIs, SOPs, productivity or quality control would be an advantage.
- Aviation, air cargo or AvSec experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Legal right to work in the UK.

Working Pattern
This position works on a 4 on, 4 off night shift pattern.
As this is an operational leadership role, you will be expected to work closely with the frontline team and remain actively involved in the warehouse operation throughout your shift.
