About The Role
Hackajob is collaborating with Tesco to connect them with exceptional professionals for this role. As a Backend Development Engineer, you will be an integral part of an agile team dedicated to shaping Tesco's experience API (xAPI) that powers various shopping experiences across multiple platforms. Your work will directly influence Tesco's mobile shopping application, in-store systems, and internal facing applications, impacting millions of customers worldwide.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with product managers, program managers, and fellow engineers to understand requirements, design scalable solutions, and implement high-quality backend systems. Your expertise in modern backend development technologies and practices will be instrumental in building maintainable, extensible, and high-performance software that enhances customer engagement and operational efficiency.
You will be working with cutting-edge technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, REST, Kafka, Azure Cloud, Redis, Docker, and Kubernetes, among others. Your contributions will help create systems that are resilient, scalable, and capable of handling a massive volume of traffic while maintaining a seamless user experience. Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a strong passion for technology and a proven track record in backend development. The ideal candidate will possess:
- 7+ years of professional experience as a Backend Software Developer.
- At least 4 years of experience in backend development using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and related frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Next.js and React.js, including testing with Jest, Mocha.js, and Cucumber.
- Proficiency in building high-traffic applications utilizing Express.js, Sails, Koa, or similar frameworks.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and deployment in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with GraphQL, including building GraphQL servers and federation technologies like Apollo Federation.
- Experience in designing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Understanding of distributed caching technologies like Redis.
- A strong desire to write clean, maintainable, and modular code following best practices.
- Exposure to DevOps principles and practices.
- Experience working within Lean, Agile, BDD, TDD, and ATDD methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and deploy scalable backend systems leveraging your expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and cloud technologies.
- Collaborate with product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Implement secure, maintainable, and high-performance code adhering to best practices.
- Automate deployment and testing processes to ensure continuous integration and delivery.
- Design and optimize system architecture for scalability, reliability, and observability.
- Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for code and systems.
- Profile, monitor, and optimize application performance.
- Apply principles of software design such as SOLID and cohesion to produce clean, understandable code.
- Identify and refactor code patterns to improve maintainability and performance.
- Participate in code reviews, provide mentorship, and share knowledge with team members.
- Support production systems by troubleshooting incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing fixes.
- Contribute to proof-of-concept projects to evaluate new tools and technologies.
- Engage in continuous learning and stay updated on industry trends to bring innovative solutions to the team.
