Impress is seeking two exceptional individuals to join our Board as Non-Executive Directors. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of independent press regulation while supporting the development of innovative digital dispute resolution services in the UK and internationally.
About Impress
Impress is the UK’s independent press regulator. We promote high standards of journalism, protect freedom of expression, and provide independent, fair and transparent complaints resolution for news publishers.
Our regulatory framework supports publishers to produce ethical journalism while giving the public confidence that complaints will be handled independently and fairly. Alongside our regulatory work, Impress is expanding its digital dispute resolution services and exploring new approaches to media accountability in response to rapidly evolving technology and regulation.
The roles
Board Member – Marketing, Digital Growth & AI
We are looking for an individual with significant experience in areas such as:
- Commercial growth and strategic partnerships;
- Digital marketing and audience growth;
- AI and emerging technologies;
- Digital transformation.
You will help the Board consider how Impress can continue to grow its profile, develop innovative services, and make responsible use of emerging technologies while maintaining public trust.

Board Member – Legal, Regulation & Legal Technology
We are seeking an individual with expertise in one or more of the following:
- Regulatory or administrative law;
- Media law;
- Technology law;
- Online dispute resolution;
- AI governance.
You will provide strategic oversight on legal and regulatory developments, support good governance, and help guide the organisation as it develops innovative approaches to dispute resolution.
What we’re looking for
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- A commitment to the mission and values of Impress;
- Strategic thinking and sound judgement;
- The ability to provide constructive challenge and independent oversight;
- Strong communication and collaborative working skills;
- A commitment to high standards of governance and accountability;
- An understanding of organisational risk and long-term sustainability.
Previous board experience is welcomed but is not essential.

Appointment details
- Term: Three years, up to once renewable
- Time commitment: Up to two days per month on average
- Remuneration: Competitive remuneration, set independently by the Impress Appointment Panel, plus reasonable expenses
