Company Description
The London Community Network is an East London not-for-profit which exists to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of persons in the Greater London postal area without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; and to establish, or secure the establishment of a community centre and to maintain and manage the same in furtherance of these objects. The charity's primary operations exist around an Arch space on a unique residential street in Hackney.

Due to the formation of a significant programme of works to renovate the Arch, the board of directors is looking for a qualified corporate lawyer based in the East London Area, United Kingdom. The Non Executive Board Member will provide strategic oversight, advice on structuring, review of constitutions and funding agreements. Typical responsibilities include attending scheduled board and committee meetings, reviewing reports and performance data, and contributing to risk management, governance, and compliance decisions. The role involves ensuring that decisions made around the programme aligns with overarching. The Non Executive Board Member is expected to collaborate with other board members and senior leaders in the community. Estimated effort is circa 1 day per month and this is a volunteer opportunity.

Qualifications
- Senior-level experience in the legal sector (private practice, in‑house, or legal services), with a strong understanding of the business of law and not-for-profit operations.
- Background in governance, risk management, and compliance, with familiarity in regulatory frameworks and board-level responsibilities.
- Experience in finance or commercial management, including reviewing budgets, financial statements, and investment or transformation business cases.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute at board level, including strategic thinking, constructive challenge, and sound judgment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cultures and disciplines.
- Prior non-executive, advisory, or charity experience is highly beneficial.
- Professional qualifications must include a law degree and valid UK practicing certificate.
