Non-Executive Director

Payments, Fintech, Growth and Risk

The Opportunity

A UK regulated bank is seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director as it enters the next stage of its development.

The organisation has completed a significant period of turnaround, leadership change and operational transformation. It is now moving to project delivery into a more stable phase focused on commercial growth, scalability and long-term value creation.

The bank is strengthening its technology, operating model, risk framework and commercial proposition. It is also implementing new banking, transaction monitoring and finance infrastructure, while improving client onboarding, automation and the use of AI.

The Board is now considering how it should evolve to support this next stage.

Role Purpose

The successful Non-Executive Director will provide independent challenge, strategic guidance and relevant sector experience as the bank grows.

The Board is particularly interested in an individual who combines payments or fintech expertise with experience scaling a business in a regulated environment.

The successful person will understand how to support ambitious commercial growth while maintaining appropriate controls, regulatory standards and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

The Non-Executive Director will:

  • Provide independent challenge and support to the CEO, executive leadership team and wider Board.
  • Contribute to the bank’s commercial growth and scaling strategy.
  • Advise on developments across payments, fintech, banking infrastructure and financial services technology.
  • Help the Board assess growth opportunities within the organisation’s agreed risk appetite.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory, operational and reputational risks associated with expansion.
  • Support the development of a scalable operating model, including the use of technology, automation and AI.
  • Challenge management on whether the organisation has the leadership, systems, processes and controls required for sustainable growth.
  • Provide insight into customer acquisition, partnerships, market expansion and commercial strategy.
  • Support the Board in balancing entrepreneurial decision-making with the requirements of a regulated bank.
  • Contribute to discussions with shareholders and investors where appropriate.
  • Use their network and market knowledge to support the organisation’s strategic development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
