Help Shape the Future of Inclusion in Local Government
Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) is seeking to appoint an experienced and passionate Non-Executive Director for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) to join its Board and provide strategic leadership on inclusion across both LLG and the Association of Monitoring Officers (AMO).
This is an exciting opportunity for an EDI professional to influence the direction of two nationally recognised membership organisations and help drive positive change across the local government legal sector.
About The Role
As the Board lead for EDI, you will provide strategic oversight of the organisations' Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Strategy and help ensure that inclusive governance, culture and decision-making remain at the heart of our work. You will bring independent challenge, expertise and insight, helping us create environments where people can thrive and succeed.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Leading the strategic development and oversight of LLG's EDI Strategy and Policy
- Chairing the EDI Committee and supporting delivery of organisational priorities
- Advising the Board on emerging EDI issues, risks and opportunities
- Engaging with stakeholders across local government and the legal sector
- Supporting conferences, events, projects and wider organisational initiatives
- Working closely with the Chief Executive, management team and fellow Board members to drive meaningful change
Who We Are Looking For
You may be an experienced Board member or seeking your first Non-Executive Director appointment. Previous board experience is welcome but not essential. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who can demonstrate:
- Strong expertise in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
- Experience of leading or delivering strategic organisational change
- The ability to provide constructive challenge and independent scrutiny
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A commitment to inclusive leadership and good governance

Time Commitment and Remuneration
The Role Requires Approximately 15 Days Per Year, Including
- Six Board meetings annually
- One annual strategy day
- Four EDI Committee meetings (as Chair)
- Attendance at the AGM, conferences and occasional stakeholder events
Meetings are a mix of virtual and in-person.
Remuneration: £300 per day plus reasonable expenses.
