About the Job
Have you built a business, opened new markets or turned a promising idea into commercial growth? Lampton Group is seeking a high-calibre Non-Executive Director who can bring commercial insight, entrepreneurial thinking and an independent perspective to its Group Board.
We are particularly interested in people who have won customers, developed services or helped businesses grow. We want someone who sees opportunities others miss, challenges established assumptions and understands what it takes to turn ideas into sustainable results.
This is an opportunity to help shape the future of a publicly owned group delivering essential services, combining commercial ambition with a clear public purpose. The Lampton Group Board is collectively responsible for the success of the Lampton Group of companies and is made up of directors common to all Group companies.
As a Non-Executive Director (NED), you will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge and strategic guidance. You will also be a trusted sounding board for the Executive Leadership Team, sharing experience and offering practical advice as they assess opportunities, test ideas and develop the business. Alongside this, you will help ensure the Group maintains the highest standards of governance, financial discipline and accountability.
Key Responsibilities

- Help shape the Group’s approach to business development and sustainable commercial growth.
- Bring an entrepreneurial perspective to identifying potential customers, partnerships, markets and services.

- Encourage fresh thinking and innovation, offering practical advice and guidance while respecting the Executive team’s responsibility for delivery.
- Help ensure commercial growth supports the Group’s public purpose and long-term success.
Board and Governance
- Actively contribute to the effective operation of the Group Board and, where appropriate, its committees.
- Contribute to board discussions, bringing independent perspective and constructive challenge to decision making.
- Uphold compliance with legal, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Prepare for, and attend, Board and Committee meetings.
- Provide constructive challenge and support to the Executive team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
