About The Prevention Project
The Prevention Project CIC is a growing Plymouth-based organisation focused on preventing gambling harm through education, early intervention and community engagement.
We're building an organisation that aims to intervene earlier — helping people understand gambling and its risks before harm becomes entrenched.
We're now looking for a Non-Executive Director with experience, knowledge or lived experience of gambling harm, addiction, recovery, public health or related services to join our Board.
About the role
This is an opportunity to bring your experience to a growing organisation and help shape how gambling-harm prevention develops across education, sport and communities. We're particularly interested in people who bring lived experience of gambling harm or recovery, either personally or through supporting a family member or someone close to them.

- Gambling treatment and recovery
- Addiction services
- Public health
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Safeguarding
- Research and evaluation

Our governance model
The Prevention Project is deliberately founder-led. Our Managing Director and founder remains responsible for the organisation's day-to-day operations and delivery.
As a NED, you won't be expected to run the organisation or become involved in routine operational decisions. Your role is to provide informed governance, independent challenge, specialist expertise and strategic perspective.
Commitment
Approximately four Board meetings per year, with preparation beforehand and occasional input between meetings. The role is voluntary, with reasonable pre-approved expenses reimbursed.

Who we're looking for
You don't need previous Board experience. We're particularly interested in someone who can demonstrate:
- Lived experience
- Professional experience
- Independent judgement
- A commitment to prevention
- Understanding of gambling harm
- Ability to constructively challenge
- Strategic thinking
If you've personally experienced gambling harm, supported someone through it, worked in gambling treatment/recovery, or have another relevant perspective, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
